Coaching Staff: Not as Good As We Hoped?

This loss falls entirely on the coaching staff. 4 weeks into the season with our only win coming against a terrible JAX team. The same problems persist that were evident in the preseason, a porous run defense, constant mistakes, penalties. Stupid things, but what hurts most is the coaching staff's direct impact on this loss.

Failure to prepare for Devin Hester is incomprehensible.

Rivera openly admitting at the half that he is "surprised" that the Bear's are running so much. Well duh. Our run defense is next to last. Not everyone strays away from the run game when it is successful like we do and start forcing balls down the field.

Continuing to force players on the field who obviously just aren't fit to play in this league. Legedu Naanee is arguably the worst starting Receiver in Panther's history. He get's no seperation, he get's no height on jump balls, he's too good to block in the run game, he drops passes. He is a JOAT at doing everything wrong, meanwhile LaFell sits on the bench and no other Receiver on the roster is given an opportunity to show what he has. Jordan Pugh was placed in the endzone today to return kicks. Why? Goodson? Armanti? Kealoha? What is the commitment to get this kid on the field? He has yet to do anything even admirably and yet Rivera keeps searching for ways to get him out there. I just don't understand where the commitment to certain players is coming from. It's like the Fox era all over again.

Lastly, the red zone play calling is atrocious. To go into the spread offense every single time we get down there, abandoning our running game which was dominating. We left numerous on the field-again-due to the coaching staff pissing away golden opportunities.

Through the first 4 games of the season, the coaching staff get's a C-.

The positional coaches have done well enough, but the guys in charge just don't seem to have a firm grasp on things. A lackadaisical training camp has resulted in an undisciplined squad, further hindered by the top guys' ability to manage the basics.

Passing up great opportunities for FG through the first 3 weeks, poor clock management, it's just rather apparent Rivera is a first time head coach. I keep hoping he'll learn from his mistakes, but so far he hasn't. Shame. Coaching staff just pissed away the offense's best game yet.

So, at 1-3, and about to take on some good teams, a C-.

eh, McDermott learned from one set of mistakes in the first game (all out blitzing) but I'm not sure how much of today's inability to stop Forte is on coaching. Might just be lack of experienced DTs. Chud's had some questionable playcalls (any call where Naanee is the main target) but the way our offense is producing, you can't call it poor coaching. No qualms about Rivera. If anything, our STs is the worst coached unit.

lol at trying to pin this on the players.

Run D tightened up after the first half. Special Teams is a coaching thing. You don't need superstars on special teams. kicking to devin hester is a coaching decision. Making boneheaded play calls in the red zone is a coaching decision, and now we have a losing record and are down from .500 by two games because of it.

That is what's tragic.

    • You bring up a good point on the stability part and i would agree that probably will factor into it. But yes, Tepper does have a strong influence on who stays/goes but I still believe ultimately it'is Morgan, Tilis and Canales who will decide.
    • I can always count on yout to put things so delicately lol. I'm still not sold on the fact that Tepper will make them keep him if they don't see him as a long term answer.
    • holy poo... this thread inspired me to keep trying to guess passwords to various alts I've created over the years and I finally got in! I pretty much accepted my fate as a lurker for the last several months because I could not remember my password. I didn't realize that new users couldn't join either, that explains things. I have been around for years under several different monikers, through the good and bad. I too always find myself coming back here even with all of the new social media options for Panther fan engagement. It's simply nostalgic.   I do get extremely annoyed with the same 5-10 posters shitting on Bryce and complaining about everything. It's unfortunate that half of them are mods and that nobody new can join because now I pretty much just come on here and see Bryce / Panther slander. There is barely any positivity to be had. We all watch this team and hang on this forum for entertainment purposes only. We have no control or say in anything. I used to be such a crazy ass fan that would argue with strangers about Cam newton on the internet and at games. Now, as a father of 3, a business owner and someone with way gnarlier life problems - I like to watch football and talk about football as an escape. Not to bitch more. I really like the direction of the team and will root anyone in a Panthers jersey. I live down the street from the Rams practice facility, Matthew Stafford is currently coaching his daughters flag football team in the same program I coach my sons. I have two highly ranked Rams staff members sons on my team. The way we beat them and had them on the ropes in the playoffs has me feeling amazing, and you would think we have the next great thing in Bryce with the way they all speak of him. I'm gonna ride that high and be a delusional fan, I hope that huddle can stick around or get fixed and perhaps I will get back to posting more now that I can log in again. I will do my best to not get banned. Keep Pounding!
