I just watched it again and no one on the field called it but I couldnt see the sideline

I just rewinded back, the timeout came from the sideline

Regardless of if there were too many men on the field, a timeout causes the same result of the penalty - a chance for the Saints to kick a FG. They should have just waited and hoped the refs didn't notice. No brainer.

Even if there were 12 men...its a 5 yard penalty and all the Saints can do is still kick it with :00 left. No sense at all in that TO. If you take the chance at them running off the field in time (which we did) its halftime if not, regardless of a TO they still get a FG shot.
