I have an occupational dilemma.

Got ambushed yesterday am by my boss and his counterpart. Jumped on me for being late, 5 mins and there was a client issue and he flipped over and said this is your final written warning.

Then he tried to pile other stuff on me and I went Vince Vaughn on him with erroneous on a few charges. Yes, I did really use that word.

This past week I became fully vested so I'm not worried on one hand if they let me go next week. It would be a flippin relief actually.

I have a buddy who asked last week for my resume to work at another financial firm, not really the direction I wanted to take. It's a cut in salary but bonus wise I would make much more, provided I hit my goals.

I'm torn in the fact that, I kinda want to take that other job, just to be able to announce at the next meeting my two week notice and totally stick it in my bosses face.

But at the same time, I'm burned out on working in the financial industry. I know too much and prefer a more creative endeavor as far as work and using my talents.

Should I go for the bird in hand, slam it in the bosses face, take the pension and 401k money and see what happens at the new place for 6 months or?

Stay, see if I can work something out to move on, which I doubt internally I can or just hunker down and if I get let go I get let go and use that down time to gameplan and still have that investment money to use in the meantime?

Checks in the mail for answers.

Sounds like you've already kind of made your decision... it sucks working in a hostile environment.

I mean if you're 5 minutes late every single day, then yeah, that gets old, but being 5 minutes late and getting reamed for it for no other reason is just retarded.

the 4 yrs i have been there, its almost expected if you do come in late, you make up for it elsewhere. a month or so ago, he goes military and says be here when you are supposed to. his counterpart tells their team, 5 min here or there is no big deal. yeah, i know my mgr said that time so thats on me despite many times working late.

Yeah, I've supervised a lot of people and I usually give about 10 minutes leeway ... if I have a guy that's consistently a few minutes late and leaves exactly on time everyday, then I'm not gonna cut him any slack. If I have a guy that is a bit late and stays late and works hard, then who cares.

Sounds like your boss is either an asshole, doesn't like you, or both. Either way, having a job that you don't like going to is about the worst... unless it's a major gamble, take the new job and see how it works out. Try not to burn too many bridges, as however good it may be to "stick it in your bosses face" that can come back to haunt you.

i love it.

yes, go for it. I am getting ready to make the same move. At your point in life with your family, kids, etc. you should be doing something you really enjoy.

tell your boss to shove it and good luck finding someone just as awesome as you to put in your place

I had a boss try that crap with me one time in a consulting role.

I explained that given the amount of money I make for the firm from clients that rave over me coupled with the fact that I work more hours than most and am always reachable by smartphone I am curious why he would take time out of his schedule to worry about my hours.

Worrying about being 5 minutes late is McDonald's crap.

I was with my previous employer for 16 years and walked about 6 weeks ago. A lot of idiot managers can say a lot of things to me, but the moment my integrity is brought into question or there are patent lies and false statements being made- I'm done. Such was the case.

I understand the bills and the money and everything that goes along with it, but I'm not sacrificing who I am just to pay the electric bill. If it comes down to a financial crisis I'll flip burgers to make ends meet.

Hopefully, your job does not define who you are as a person. A job is simply a means to and end. A job allows you to feed the family, pay the cable bill and root for your Panthers. But the person you are at home or in the stadium is hopefully not the same guy I'd meet in your office.

Typical behavior for corporate America these days. When things got tough economically, companies began increasing the sales goals and coming down hard on the sales force to get more leads, close more sales.... never mind nobody wants to spend money, let alone have any discretionary cash laying around to begin with.

Tell 'em all to bob on your knobber and get something you're happy doing.

    • Yeah not taking that Burns trade was infinitely stupid. We seem to be finally righting the ship but, imo, our biggest issue since Tepper bought the team has been coaches and management having a poor understanding of where our own roster is at. Starting with that idiot Rhule drinking his own kool-aid and thinking he was going to come and take the NFL by storm with Teddy freaking Bridgewater. Could have just kept Cam on the last year of his contract and gone from there but noooo that fat slob had to feel like he was the big man on campus. First round wizard Marty Hurney who, for whatever his faults, has a freaking HOF track record with first round picks, wants to trade up for Hebert but fat fug Rhule says no. Then we kept Rhule for 3 years which is absolutely unbelievable to me and every single year he treated our roster like it was just one player away trading our draft picks for Sam Darnold and Baker Mayfield who have proven since leaving that Matt Rhule was an even bigger idiot of a coach than we thought. We finally seem to understand we are a ways off and trade CMC, but then we don’t take the actual good trade for Brian Burns who was never better than a run of the mill situational pass rusher. Then we botch the self scout of our OL (and team) after Wilks, even though they were bad before Wilks simplified the scheme, thinking they can execute whatever the hell Reich and Brown were trying to do. So we win a couple meaningless games playing dummy ball and Fitterer thinks we’re a player away again. And nobody even considers that having the slowest receiving corps imaginable with Damiere freaking Byrd, who can’t even make it to the season before being injured and cut, as your only hope for speed, coupled with the worst pass blocking OL I’ve ever seen, might lead to titanic levels of disaster. The way Canales and Morgan have been adamant about constantly bringing competition at every position has been refreshing and made a huge difference. I was kind of worried that we had fallen into our old ways leading up to the draft with all the talk of defense only and worried that they might feel the offense was set. Very glad to see they were not complacent on that. My big thing now is I’m still wondering why Evero is still here. I can’t think of a single player who has gotten better under him, and the Broncos defense got better once he left. We’ll see.
    • really good interview that gives some insight into their decision making process in making up the schedules and the issues they run into with so many people broadcasting games now. also some interesting discussion on what they have going on and where they might be heading in the international games. vikings have 2 of them, btw. we might be seeing more of that.
    • wow i absolutely LOVED watching that.   will watch again...and again...and again.
