Well if we run our first rate QB into the ground without being able to build a team around him for the next 4-5 years in spite of countless high 1st round picks and stumbling across the occasional productive defense, we might be able to deal our disgruntled star for two first rounders to a team that was desperate for a QB because they broke the one they got midseason.

Would that make you happy?

There was no way of knowing Otah would be injury prone, that Brown wouldnt be as good as he could've been, or that AE wouldnt pan out. Unless you had the prognostical abilities of Nostradamus, Edgar Cayce or HappyPanther, of course...

I'm not really supporting the OP or anything. BUT, we did know. I remember Otah's biggest knock coming into the draft was his inability to play through even the smallest of injuries. We knew that before hand. Everyone else in the league knew AE had a small chance of becoming good for us, hence why we could have got him in the 4-5-6 round range. It was a local homer pick, you can't deny. AND, if I remember correctly, Everette Brown was regarded as undersized for our defense before we drafted him and really thought to be better suited toward a 3-4 or something.

I understand the draft is always a crap shoot, but these things were out there before we drafted. They really weren't great picks.

So basically this board went from wanting to deal with the bengals' FO in the offseason to wanting to have the bengals' FO

Seems like it. I just had to chime in about the draft picks. I still trust our FO more. Just cause the Raiders are completely stupid doesn't mean the Bengals are geniuses. I don't think another team in the league would give that up for Palmer. Al Davis is now the Crypt Keeper and running the team from the grave. When I see the Bengals compete for 4-5 years straight, that is when I'll be jealous (unless our team is doing better).

I heard Happy Panther predicted Clausen would suck.

How did he know that?

I do not recall anything about Otah before we picked him up, dont follow a lot of NCAA...

Same with AE, but I usually assume those doing the picks know much more than I do. Im a fan, that is their job...

And EB was supposed to fit into Meeks' smaller, faster defense, no? Didnt one of the Huddle higher-ups predict EB would have more sacks than Pep? Id go find it, but you know Kurb and his bant stick...

Regardless, I stand corrected...

The AE pick was a homer pick, and it would have been fine, just lower in the draft, no other team really wanted him even close to where we picked him.

EB, by most experts, was predicted too small to play in a 4-3. People thought Meeks could get use out of him because of his success with Freeney, but Freeney is more of a exception than the rule. While I never thought he'd be worth a first round, I was at least hoping he could contribute, but that didn't happen. No offense to who the "Huddle Higher-Up" is, but I usually pay more attention to actual scouts and experts before drafting.

It's possible the FO listens to Huddle Higher-Ups more than the experts though....
