So... I quit smoking today...

Yeah, IMO cold turkey is the easiest way, everything else is just making excuses. Suck it up and just quit doing it, metal toughness. I quit the day that we found out that I was going to be a father. I smoked for a month during the summer, two years ago, but for all intents and purposes I haven't smoked in a little over three years.

I don't agree with the quitting drinking also. Because when you start drinking again it will bring back the memories of cigarettes when you haven't really craved them in a long time. Not smoking while drinking is one of the hardest things to do, but it's a must in my opinion. Fight that urge and it won't take to long before you feel natural drinking and not smoking.

I quit smoking and drinking 5 years ago, 6 months later i dropped 80 pounds and starting running 5 miles every morning. I think i may of added 20 more years to my life for giving up that crap. Weed is a different story thoa its funny how i can toke it up on a daily basis and still be able to exercise and enjoy life. why the fug is it illegal again.

I gave it up last year, the first week is rough as hell. The first 2 days I craved carbs so fuging bad...eat the hell out of candy and chewed gum excessively, chugged soda as well..lol. Substitute for the nicotine crave I guess...

But yes, daily exercise, drinking plenty of water takes the edge off as good as anything. Every week it wears off. Mellow music will help also.

Good luck to you TCF. I've always thought you were on edge around here, I guess you will be taking it to a whole new level now. Maybe just put a disclaimer in your sig or something.

I keep hearing rumors of companies not covering as much for smokers. As an occasional cigar smoker, I'm curious if this is happening with anyone out there.

As for this question, yes. Companies are trying to establish more healthy behaviors amongst employees. Obviously better health ultimately lowers health care costs, but it keeps employees at work and not out sick, or not developing diseases potentially later in life. And I haven't seen it as a restriction of coverage or benefits, but a reverse incentive - for example, if everyone pay's X dollars for their benefits, the non-tobacco users will get a $10 kickback in their paycheck, so over a years' time, you pay less for your medical benefits.

I quit for my daughter. I've been tempted at times, but she is the best reason to not pick the habit back up. I'm not sure how many days its been, but I'd guess just about 14 months now.

Also, I never stopped drinking. I just stopped getting hammered.

Don't ever do it man....I quit for 4 years after smoking for 18 years. Starting smoking one here and there in the beginning of separation about a year ago and now I am up to a pack a day again and I disgust myself. Biggest mistake I have ever made. Got my Chantix prescription and plan on putting them down and start training for a half marathon with a friend of mine. That should teach me never to think of picking them up again.

Oh yeah...Good luck TruCatz...best decision you could ever make.
