Detroit Lions Scouting Report

It suck's but living in Detroit I've had the pleasure of watching this sad franchise for the past decade...Well this season there ok at best! Everyone want's to give them respect in Detroit, but I've been saying there going to collapse for a long time now...Here's a little bit of what to expect come sunday...

THE DLINE- This WILL be the BEST pass rush we have faced all year this defense get's after the QB in a Baltimore Raven fashion without blitzing...Cliff Avril and Vandenbosh on the ends, and Suh, Corey Williams, Nick Fairley, and Hill rotating in the middle. Not to mention Suh is a Hall of Fame talent...Literally he looks as slim and fast as a linebacker, but has the strength of a Haloti Naghta...Plain and simple we may be the BEST Oline this D has faced, maybe the Titans game will serve as a wake up call...Were gonna need it.

THE LINE BACKERS Everyone in Detroit loves our line backers with Durant, Tulloch, and Levy on the other side...Here's why I don't get the love fest for them...They have arguably the best Dline in football and rank 27th versus the run...The thing they do have going for them is there fast and can cover...Don't expect big thing's from Olsen or Shockey this week depending on how we use em. If we stretch them out wide we may get a good match up...

THE SECONDARY Worst secondary in the NFCN and arguably the NFC in general...They would kill to have Chris Gamble...They come in with Chris Houston as their number 1, and Eric Wright / Alphonso Smith as the 2 and nickel...Safety's are ok at best; Louis Delmas and OUR BOY Chris Harris will knock your head off, but both are liabilities in coverage as we all know. This unit ranks 9th in pass yard allowed, but that's only because teams that can run, run it down there throat. Trust me given time in the pocket this until blows...Laurent Robinson ripped Chris Houston apart, and made Donovan Mcnabb to Mike Jenkin's look relevant... Smitty should have a field day...

THE OLINE Worst offensive line in the league...With Jeff Bacus, Gosder Cherilus, anchoring the left and right, Dominick Raiola at center and Steven Peterman next to him...Matthew Stafford has never had time in the pocket...This offense has NO run game, and gets eaten alive by good DE's...Look for Charles Johnson to have a good game, and our DT's to look serviceable for once...

WIDE OUT'S Calvin Johnson is a freak...The Detroit passing game is never consistent...If we force them to utilize other part's of the field we may win. Our CB's might not be the best but Gamble has the size to possibly match up with Calvin, and at least contain him...I'm worried about one thing and that is our linebackers versus Brandon Pettigrew...If we don't get pressure, and we double up Calvin this kid could have a field day, but will live with that.

RUNNING BACKS Kevin Smith? Yes for those that don't know they resigned him to help the putrid unit...Awful. Hopefully we don't make him look good.

QUARTERBACK Matthew Stafford...I personally hate him...Almost all of his touchdown's have been heaves to Calvin Johnson, and he's very inconsistent and scared in the pocket. A lot of it has to do with his Oline...If he didn't have such a cannon on the deep ball he would be looking like David Carr in the pocket. The kid can't sit still and be consistent...We gotta get after him early.

All in all it's a winnable game the thing's were worst at run defense, and a consistent ground game are their biggest flaws... They can't run the ball or stop the run. I feel it's going to be a close game...We can't let Calvin burn us early (he will get his eventually)...And our oline has to bring their A game...I think in an awkward type fashion our run game will go off for a solid game, and by that I mean 60 yards from Stewart, 50 from Cam and around the 40 or 50 mark from Williams...It's gonna be a pissed of Lions unit coming back home and are going to wanna unload on us, but It's also going to be a pissed off Hall of Fame QB in Cam Newton going on the road to ford field...Should be a good one I'll be their rocking my Smitty Jersey and waving my "yes we Cam shirt"...

That dline is a bit overrated. Especially in run defense.

not really, it is league wide known they suck against the run. Coaching staff practically admits they are willing to intentionally be weak there. They are willing to give up holes to sell out on the pass rush.....

Chud could easily take himself out of HC job looks w/ his gameplan. Dumb to try to be a pass heavy offense in this game for a variety of reasons.

    • They know within 15 mins.  Many moons ago skins drafted Heath Shuler at like 5th overall and Gus Frerotte in the late rounds. You know the plan, its Heaths team. Old OLman stink said within 15 minutes they knew Gus was the better QB.  I didn't need 15 or players on the same field, I just knew like Bill said "he better walk on water", which he hasn't. I do blame tepper mainly for it, he spend the greater part of 2 year telling everyone Watson would be a panther......and fail....but a great fail...then Stanford turned panthers down.....tepper was beyond pissed and wanted a QB. He forced the trade and picked BY......and now by .....some grace of the gods formed a team with 4 QBs of no hope...... insane given the other roster spots.....
    • He definitely knows nothing about the Panthers, but there’s no denying he’s a pioneer in this whole draft grading and mock draft field.
    • I actually say wait five years since that's long enough to know if a player  became something worthy enough for a long term contract, whether with their original team or someone else. Therefore... 1 (8): Jaycee Horn - Has been questions about his durability but when he's healthy, he plays at a high level. Should we have drafted Pat Surtain or Micah Parsons, however? Arguably could’ve done better, but he's still here so that's a W pick. 2 (59): Terrance Marshall - Yet another classic Panther WR bust. I don’t recall seeing anything in his college tape that made me excited about drafting him in the first place.  3 (70): Brady Christensen - Proved to be a versatile player on the O-line.  As of now, we haven’t signed him back and I feel that we should. That's enough to say he was a solid draft pick. 3 (83): Tommy Tremble - Hasn't emerged as a consistent productive player, but he's had his moments here and there. We can certainly do better, but we haven’t found that guy yet so he still has some utility. W because he's not Ian Thomas. 4 (126): Chuba Hubbard - Surprise of the draft. It took time, but he's now our lead back.  5 (158): Daviyon Nixon - Had a half a sack with us and... that's it. I think I liked what I saw but it didn't pan out. 5 (166): Keith Taylor - Another guy I liked but only stuck around for two years. Played for a few other teams but nothing really to note. 6 (193): Deonte Brown - I really thought this guy was going to be a steal. He might’ve been the guy that had weight issues and never really got a handle on it. 6 (204): Shi Smith - He scored double the touchdowns that Marshall did in his short time here; it was two. Yeah, the Panthers wide receiver history is rather bleak. 6 (222): Thomas Fletcher - I had to look it up but he was a long snapper. JJ Jansen is immortal, so it was a wasted draft pick. 7 (232): Phil Hoskins - Actually recorded a sack here in his short career. Wish I could remember it.   Surprisingly not a bad draft when you have two good/great starters and a JAG that's still here, plus a good rotation guy most would like to keep.
