For those apart of the "Lunatic Fringe"...

...you now have a leader.

I also understand the frustration of fans who boil when they think Carolina never even entered the Jay Cutler sweepstakes. Carolina couldn't have traded Julius Peppers for Cutler – Cutler is worth more than Peppers on the open market since he's younger and plays a more important position.

But certainly the Panthers could have tried something to get the rocket-armed quarterback who instead ended up with NFC rival Chicago. As of now, there is no way to know who the quarterback will be here once Delhomme finishes his career. That's a bad thing.

i would love Foxy to be more flexible too.. changing strategies at halftime or on the fly when things obviously arent gunna work the way they planned.. i think Davidson would be great at making adjustments if Fox let the reigns go a bit.. and maybe Meeks will be able to give Fox some confidence in his abilities, so Fox doesnt have to babysit his DC all the time..

The thing with Fowler is that he gets some of it right but often uses generalities and fails to explore a topic fully giving both sides. For example he said Fox was stubborn not starting Williams over Foster in 2007. Then talks about his break out year in 2008 as proof the decision in 2007 was incorrect. But he fails to mention that Williams of 2007 was not close to Williams of 2008 in conditioning, desire and other factors. In 2007 even Testeverde got on Williams for going to the sidelines looking for a blow after a big run, not working hard or wanting to be the starter. You can blame Foster for alot but desire and effort weren't two of them. In fact you could make a case that trying too hard for an extra yard or two and subsequently fumbling the ball was much of his undoing. And as Williams began to come on and Foster faded, Williams got more of the carries toward the end of 2007.

He says we are wrong not to pursue Cutler but doesn't give a clear plan as to exactly what we could have given up close to what Chicago did.

The reality is that he writes good opinion and fluff pieces but lacks when it comes to facts, realities, and insider information.

Here's the real point of what Scott Fowler is saying, given the Panthers history we will stick with Jake to the bitter end, and well beyond... in the case of Foster we were lucky to have D-WILL waiting in the wings, right now we don't have much proven or even highly regarded talent waiting in the wings behind Jake...

And Fowler may be wrong. Fox is learning and figuring things out. This is his first gig as head coach. So to assume what he did in 2007 he will do in 2010 or 2011 is not necessarily close to the truth. Even though Williams was a first rounder he was not highly regarded after his first 2 years. He hasn't been on anyone's radar other than ours. So to that end who knows what we have in Moore for example. Was Cassel highly rated before the 2008 season? What about Collins for Tennessee. Anyone think he would have such a good year when Young sucked?

As for us being lucky to have Williams in the wings, how do you think he got there? We drafted him in 2006 in order to be the back of the future. We just needed to give him time to recover from all the pounding in college and get used to the pro game. When he was ready to start we got rid of Foster and he became the starter.

Jake has 2 or 3 years left which is plenty of time to develop a quarterback. Fowler is already bitching because we didn't try and land Cutler but that was unrealistic and as far as this year the draft isn't even here. If we don't make any moves at QB this year then he can start whining. Otherwise it is way too early to be taking shots at Fox at least this year.

Pfffttt..Fowler's hardly the leader of the lunatic fringe. He thinks Fox is the best coach in the Cats' history AND that they can still win with Jake. ;)

He made some comments to save face but IMO that entire article was written in response to the Gantt controversy on the huddle the past couple of weeks. Fowler made a point to write an entire piece in which he was questioning the organization just to be questioning it. Isn't that what some posters where saying? The beat writers need to start questioning the decissions being made? Well, Fowler is questioning the decisions even though he agrees with them.

So do I, what's your point?... There's no doubt that Fox is the Panther's most successful coach. There's no doubt that Jake Dehomme is the panther's most successful QB's It's no doubt that Steve Smith is the greatest reciever in football. There's no doubt that we have the best offensive run tandem in football and a line to block against it.
