Don't rush it. We learned that the hard way with Beason week 1. A re-injury could put his career in jeopardy. I'll be happy if he plays 1-2 games. Or none. As long as he stays healthy.

This is why I hope we don't try to rush him to play before he is fully healed. We also saw how injuries can make players like Beason play horrible. I would love to see him on the field for the last two games so he can get to see what its like being on the field.

I agree. Perhaps they thought his injury wasn't as severe? At any rate, it's frustrating me too. We need to see what the guy can do! I'm sick of watching Munnerlyn get his tail whipped in coverage.

At this point, there is no reason to rush him back. The sad part is, here we are !0 months after the draft and we still have no idea what Hogan can do.

From a FA/draft standpoint, I think we have to treat him like Thomas Davis; pretend like he isn't there and whatever you get from him in the future is a bonus.

I think it was always the plan to use this season as a redshirt year for Hogan. The team saw him as a starting level talent that they could pick up at a point in the draft where you're happy to get decent backups. IMO, the only reason they didn't IR him is so he could get on the practice field and get some work in to prepare for next season.

Should've never been drafted with that kind of injury. Who would buy a brand new car that they're told was a lemon coming off of the assembly line? Almost no one. Well then draft the next guy on your list who doesn't already have a severe injury before you even draft him.

Sometimes I wonder if we'll ever see the guy on the field. Why the fug would you draft a guy who probably wouldn't see the field this year, when we need CB help NOW.

Amen.

That's up there with wasting a couple of years trying to a safety into a Linebacker.

...or a QB a WR/KR.

Panthers have so much talent we can squander roster spaces you know and take chances on marginal players.

Lol at this! I'm sure RR has an idea from practice what he can do!

But you are right about Davis!

Yes, he can evaluate his potential in practice, but a lot of guys look good in practice and under-produce in games.

The point remains; we won't know what we have with Hogan until he sees game action.

i agree with you about trying to outsmart the league....well...kind of. he's a gambler. he learned it from bobby beathard. that's why he does the trades he does in the draft. he's gambling.

i don't have a problem with him doing it. i just wish he was better at it.

I have a problem with Hurney not being very good at it. Everyone else should too. This team has a certain low ceiling with Hurney as the GM. And he is a hard guy to figure out as he makes some good draft calls, but almost all of his "I am smarter than everyone else" draft moves seem to backfire.

I have been saying for a while Hurney is definitely under the microscope for on down the road. We BETTER get at least to starters out the draft. Too many high round draft picks sitting on the sideline because they cant play or have been cut. (clausen, armanti, E Brown) cant keep doing that, its definitely holding the team back. He is got to step it up from here on in.

    • So dumb I get it, they want to expand the reach of the NFL, but it's not the right sport to be playing games halfway around the world for a variety of reasons.   But one of the main ones is what happens if a player has an injury in that game? A lot of times, you're not supposed to fly right after some injuries, so when they happen here it's not a big deal, the player stays in that town for a few days and then flys home separately.  But that opens a whole bag of worms if the game is played all the way out in Australia. Plus just needing that long of a flight to get out there and back, even if they get a bye week after, it means a ton of travel and needing to adjust to a new time zone directly after another game.
    • I don't think it was fear of the unknown because he tried to hide the extent of the injuries that made him drop. After the drop, the reports I heard were that teams knew what was wrong with his knee and it was something similar to another athlete from a few years ago (honestly don't remember if it was even a football player).  That it was basically one of those things where he should be fine for a while, there isn't a huge concern of immediate injury risk.   But what he has going on with his knee is something that is degenerative and there's little chance he'll be able to play more than 5 or so years on it before he won't be able to play anymore. So basically it was teams knowing if they draft him, he's probably going to be only a rookie contract player and even if he's great, you might not be able to get use out of him on a second contract.  Which in turn makes the drop make sense, but I'm kinda surprised some contending team didn't take him late in the 1st, hoping he'd put them over the top on a SB run but then not even have to worry about giving him a big contract in 4 years too.
