Matt Kalil turning pro

Other than QB or RB I think we should pick the best player available. It looks like that will be a CB, WR, or OT which could all be considered areas of need. I would prefer we go defense or OT but if Blackmon is sitting there I wouldn't blame us for taking him.

Doesn't matter that our d sucks balls right now, if Kalil is available and you can make one kickass line by moving Gross to RT and starting Kalil at LT, you do it. This annual shiat with Otah needs to end.

I absolutely agree. Gross makes a better RT than he does LT imo. We will have the franchise set up for years with Kalil x 2.

PLus when we move Gross to RT we can move Otah to RG and have a beast of an o-line.

What will Hurney trade in order to move up to draft Kalil?

I think the Panthers' Defensive Line has potential. I think Jason Shirley and Frank Kearse can grow into a formidable duo. Still not sold on Fua and McClain, but I don't think the D line is hurting as much as it was earlier, so they don't need to draft there with all to young guys they have on it.

I still maintain that they should look to free agency for DB help. That's a skill position. You can pick up older guys there for two or three years (ala the Ken Lucas deal back in the day). They can win next year if they have guys back there who have already proven they can play in the NFL.

I think the Panthers need to draft some LINEBACKER HELP if they go Defense. If they go into next season expecting anything from JON BEASON or Thomas Davis, then they are setting themselves up for failure. It's time to start thinking about franchise linebackers again. You can always pick up one of those after the first round.

With that said, if they can get Kalil, they should. It'll probably take a trade though, because the Panthers will probably win again.

I agree with you on the LB scenario. I would love to draft a stud OLB in the draft. Problem is that there just does not appear to be an OLB worth that pick....like Von Miller was.

I either want Kalil or Claiborne in the first.

I think everyone agrees that Kalil would be our first choice of OT. However, if we end up picking in thr 6-8 range he will be gone. There are a couple of other highly rated tackles projected in that range. Do we go with one of them or reach for a defensive player?

Rams and Vikings both need an OT and a WR. They will be picking before us. I would forget about Kalil and Blackmon, unfortunately. The only way I could see either of them slipping, is if some team makes an absurd trade to get a QB, which isn't really out of the picture.

    • Last night was the classic example of a visiting team just holding on through the wave of emotion a home team has at the start of a big time game. Bama’s first two kickoff returns really set them back as far as playcalling and allowed OU to dictate field position. The emotion of the home crowd fed into what OU was doing at that point, and it felt like Bama would not be able to overcome that.     Once the kickoff returner was told to fair catch every kick, the game shifted, as Bama wasn’t starting each drive inside their own 15. It was then that Bama was able to make some plays, outscoring OU 34-7 the rest of the way.  I think the last 3/4 of the game proves Bama was the better team. OU was just able to ride the initial wave of emotion to a big lead, but Bama held on just enough.  However, had OU blocked the punt on Bama’s second drive and scored a TD (vice a FG on the ensuing drive), things likely would have been different.  Anyway, Roll Tide!
