Smith feels he can play four more years

Coming off his best season since 2008, Panthers veteran wideout Steve Smith said he believes he can be effective for another four years.

Smith, who will be 33 in May, is entering the final year of his contract. Having avoided serious injuries throughout his career, the 5-9, 185-pound Smith is optimistic he can keep going.

"I hope I can play four more years at a pretty decent level. I'm not the prototype receiver, so I'm kind of breaking the mold, anyway,” Smith said this week in a phone interview.

he might can play for 4 more years but how many years can he play at the dominate level he has played throughout his career?

I understand your concern. Here are two things to ease your mind.

One, Smitty never sugarcoats anything. He must think he can. He did state that he has never had a serious injury, and takes great pride in taking care of his body.

Two, and most important. If Smitty says he wants to play four more years, I ain't gonna be the one to tell him he can't.

Don't worry little buddy. Smitty will play until he feels he cannot dominate anymore. He is not the type to play just to play. He wants to dominate, and as long as he feels he can. He is welcome on my team.

Giddy effing up Smitty. Aaannnnddddd GO CATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If he dominates for one more year but has very good numbers in the slot for three more is that not just as good?

One fact that some have not taken into account is that we do not use a slot receiver very often. Our 4 WR set uses 2 TEs. We have to go empty backfield, or just one TE, to have a slot guy. Not in our normal game plan.

And yes there are exceptions. But a slot receiver is not one of our main toys. So Smitty will live or die on the outside, with a few slots thrown in for those special occassions.

Just my thoughts, and GOOOOO CATS!!!!!!!!!!!!
