Top 5 free agents by position

We've never been free agent crazy. We might have given some players what seems like exuberant contracts but nothing like Oakland or Washington.

we spent more money in free agency last year than any other team

we're heading into this offseason already over the cap, before we even resign any of our own players, add guys to fill out the roster, or sign our draft picks

we are one of the top teams as far as money counted toward the cap for the next 3 years

it doesn't seem like we went free agent crazy because we didn't add that many guys, we just massively overpaid a few players as i said

and fwiw the redskins now without snyder running things are actually starting to get their cap in decent shape

LaRon Landry, Vincent Jackson, Cortland Finnegan

LaRon Landry is my dream free agency signing. We should seriously make it a goal to lock him down.

I haven't really looked at the list as thoroughly as I probably should have, but if I had to make a cumulative top 25, Landry has gotta be in the top 5...maybe 3.

Some team (not the Panthers) will throw ridiculous money at him.

Let's acknowledge the injury history with him, though.

There's just something about him that makes me think he's going to finally start playing at a consistently high level and not let injuries hold him back anymore. He has even more potential over the next couple of years and he should be looking for a fresh start a new team thats on the verge of being great.

The only thing though is how much is he, and if it would be worth it. Because you either need to use your money to sign a couple guys that can provide good depth and leadership, or you can go all in one player that you think will step in and help immediately and be here long term.

The Greg Olsen trade really made me feel like thats the new attitude around here.

I would agree that we could have saved a ton of money if we had simply locked up some of these guys before they hit free agency. Blame Richardson for going cheap in 2010 expecting a long lockout. But lets be real. We have one of the biggest payrolls because we have more people signed to a long term contract than anyone else in the league. 20 of 22 starters are locked up.

You think after the Saints sign Brees, Colston and Nicks and the rest, they won't be in the same boat?? The only people we possibly overpaid was Williams and Mare. He won't see all of that money and Mare hopefully will redeem himself. Johnson was worth the price and showed why he deserves the big bucks. The same with Kalil.

Sure we don't go after big names under Hurney most of the time...but it doesn't mean we aren't going to give these guys a look and try to lure someone in who they honestly think will be a strong fit for our scheme.

To be honest, I really don't mind the looks of the available DTs and FSs. I really think we should target a for sure starter in one of the two. Again: just one of the two. Basically, we should at least find one for-sure starter talent in this FA on defense.
