Do we need another tight end?

I think Finley of the Packers is out of a contact. He complained a lot this year about not getting the ball. I kept thinking all year we should try and sign him and part ways with Shockey. However, watching him drop ball after ball down the stretch I say stick with what we got this year, then try and find a freak next year.

I bet most of you don't realize how young Shockey really is....

He will be 32 by next season which is old for the NFL and he's never played a full season in his career. He was a very important player for us and would be worse without him but I would understand why they might be hesitant to open up their pocketbooks for him.

Jeremy Shockey has played in an average of 13.6 games per season over the course of his career.

His "injury issues" are trumped up and always have been.

Barnidge has contributed much more than Jarrett. Not so much as a TE though considering he played behind King and Rosario and was hurt last year. He has played very well on Special teams. He can be very good but I would like to see him learn from Shock and Olsen for at least one more year.

The playbook itself will not increase Gary's chances and productivity because there are of course other factors, but it is fairly common knowledge that this offense allows tight ends that can stretch the field a chance to thrive.

32 is old at the RB position. That's it...

how much sense does it make that with all of the holes that need to be filled that we use a much needed draft pick on an area that isn't really a need so we can replace an "old" (but not really) TE who gets hurt a lot (although he stayed pretty healthy here) even though he's proven he can do everything we need him to do, is a great presence on the team, wants to be here, and will probably stay for cheap.

shockey is good for the team and would be an easy re-sign. there is no reason that we should waste energy and resources at this moment trying to replace him when there are so many other legitimate holes to fill.

Again with the Barnidge talk...

"Hey guys, he's really good! Remember that one time, in that one game, when he caught that 50 yard pass! Man, even though it was years ago, and there was probably nobody guarding him, I seen greatness in him!"

    • lol, that second part is quite literally one of the dumbest things ever. Having or not having guaranteed contracts has absolutely nothing to do with how much these billionaires have to pay.  Because there is a hard cap and a minimum cap spend requirement, and teams either use their cap or roll it over to use it all the next year, so the owners have to pay the same amount of money in the end no matter what. Having fully guaranteed contracts in the NFL would only hurt salary cap management, and thus would end up screwing over the team and its fan base when teams kiss on signings as they take up cap room that is needed to improve the roster. Look at the Browns with Watson, they gave him the fully guaranteed deal and all it’s doing is sucking up massive cap space now.  If they hadn’t done that, the owner would still be paying the same amount of money each year as that cap space would still be used elsewhere. If you want to argue for fully guaranteed contracts because the players deserve it, that’s an entirely different argument and a fair one to discuss.  But anyone against fully guaranteed deals isn’t doing it to argue for the billionaire owners.

    • Ryabkin could be the steal of the draft, he was a Top 10 pick heading into last season and had a rough year.  Lots of GMs passed on him because of that and his workouts. Pick has really high upside and Svech should be able to translate Rod tearing his arse a new one for making dumb plays since Svech has had several years of it.  🤣😂
