Panthers to draft a QB...

According to our beat writer, Joe Person, its possible...

Russell Wilson said he met with the Panthers this week. Panthers possibly looking for a backup QB that can run same offense as Cam Newton. Wilson has the skills to run the read option, would be Cam's mini-me. With a later pick, would be interesting move.

I've looked at some of his highlight tapes, and he does look like he would be a great complement to Cam, should he ever go down. (God forbid) The biggest knock on Wilson is that he's 5'10". He's been compared to Doug Flutie. You be the judge. Click the link below. (I couldn't figure out how to embed the video. Sorry.)

Joe Person is the worst beat writer in the NFL. I don't know if I'd like the move. We have too many needs to waste a pick on a Cam's mini-me (dude is a midget as far as NFL QBs go). But late round picks are a crapshoot anyway (our 6th rounder from last year) so I wouldn't be pissed. I just wanted to take the time to say outwardly that Joe Person is a turd.

I watched every game Wilson played for his first 3 years, and almost all of them last year.

He's awesome and I'd love to have him on the Panthers, both as a Panthers fan and as an NC State alum. If he's around at our 5th rounder I hope we take him. It's not like 5th round picks generally become starters anyway.

I love Russell Wilson, and I called this in the other thread.

However, I only want him if its past the 5th rounder, and I am almost certain he wont be there. I think he goes off the board in the 3/4.

People concerned with height, he played behind the 4th tallest offensive line in the country this season.

Height is important, but some have found ways to overcome it.

Still, I hate to burn a pick this season on a QB.

    • I presented that scenario because this is a home game and we seemed to have improved in some capacity in that area as of recently. The problem with the possibility of sweeping the Bucs is this team has had a habit of quickly falling victim to momentum shifts. The Bucs are coming off a bitter loss the same as the Panthers but the Bucs have a much better proven track record this time of year and they have performed when the pressure is on unlike our Panthers. We have a shot against the Seahawks here in BOA but that is a matchup that could quickly get out of hand because they are a well coached team and that goes back to the momentum shifts I mentioned. I just don't see this team beating the Bucs in their stadium to close the season. Tall order to say the least.
    • I’d give it another year for Sanders and Evans, I don’t much care what you do with Tremble’s spot. Let him have another year or maybe replace him. Haven’t looked at his contract so that may be the determining factor.
    • Following the crazy up down pattern we finish 9-8 with an improbable sweep of TB, and lay an egg in the home playoff game.  I don’t know if I can sign on to sweeping TB but I suppose it’s possible, they aren’t really that good this year.    ps I can buy beating TB Sunday and losing to Seattle.  Then it just gets to can you fluke one game. Any given Sunday. So we’ll see.
