If a top 5 prospect falls to us...

Recommended Posts

Considering the top-5 is likely going to be Luck, RGIII, Blackmon, Claiborne, and an OT or two, it's possible. I think Blackmon has a slight chance to drop to us, but very slight. The Jaguars badly need a WR and would almost certainly pick him if nobody else does. Claiborne could conceivably fall and so could Matt Kalil, but it's impossible to say right now.

Drafting either QB is out of the question. If it's one of the OT's or Claiborne, we obviously pull the trigger (if not trade up for it!). If it's Blackmon, that depends on how big the gap is between him and the next guy on the list.

I agree, I would be willing to bet the farm that RG3 doesn't make it past cleveland, and at the very worst case the redskins. And if hell freezes over and he is still there after that, the Jags would be hard pressed to pass on him, and its almost a guarantee that Miami would take him if they had the 8th pick. I read somewhere where they are thinking of picking tannehill in the top 10, you better believe if RG3 is there, they will take 10 seconds to get the card to the commissioner.

    • He makes a good point about Wallace.  In fairness to Wallace it is hard to play your position as freely as you need to when your defensive line is getting pushed around like ragdolls.  One of the greatest attributes a defensive line has is sucking up blocks, freeing up your linebackers.  Our defensive line couldn't suck up a lollipop more or less blocks.  I think Evans, Sanders and Tremble are going to be a really nice TE group.  I can see all three getting time on the field.  If Sanders can improve as a blocker teams won't be so inclined to believe it is a pass play whenever Sanders is on the field.  Ryan Fitzgerald, I think was an awesome pick-up. Hopefully he can fill our kicker void. Luke Kandra many turn out to be our next Norwell.  Everything I have heard about him says he's a beast.  He needs some refinement, but the good news is he's got Hunt and Lewis (arguably the best guard tandem in the league) to learn from.
    • Great teams build through the draft and have several young players that start that are on rookie contracts. It's important to hit on players in rounds 4 thru 7.  These should be future starters and solid depth.  When you hit on most of your picks you free up a lot of cap space for those one- or two-year players to fill spots you are thin at. No GM is going to perfect on all their picks.  You're going to whiff every once in a while.  That was Hurney problem.  He'd nail the first pick but after that it was reach after reach and we couldn't get any depth on this team. I'm excited about Morgan as our GM and hopefully he'll be around a long time.  It will be even better if Canales can continue to grow as a head coach, both in the development of young players and play calling. I remember last season after Young came back in the lineup and started to perform well.  We saw different plays I had only seen other teams use.   If Canales's play design and play calling continue to grow. Morgan and Canales will be linked together for a long time.  It would be nice to see a Coach and GM together for a decade or two. Go Panthers
