Thoughts about Melvin Ingram

I watched some of his games but I don't think he's an elite DE,what do you think? Will you choose him if he's still there when we draft?

I would but that's just my opinion. I think we should trade back and if he falls to us then yes. But I don't think selecting him 8 or 9 is likely. I just want a playmaker on D. Idc If it's DT, CB, S , OLB, or DE as long as we spread some talent throughout this defense

I was actually wondering the same thing once I started seeing a lot of mocks with Coples going before we picked. I just don't think he'll be the BPA when we pick (unless we trade back), nor do I think he's going to be an elite-level player in the NFL.

We can all sit here and play GM and it ultimately won't matter, but just my opinion, I don't think he's worth the pick in the first, at least not for us... If we're going DE in the first, it's gotta be Coples or no one.

Eh, I wouldn't call him a tweener. He's the same size as CJ and reportedly has a high motor. Not worth our 1st, but someone will take him in the first. If we were to trade down and get the Pats' first two picks I'd wouldn't hate taking him with #27. Maybe even with the Bengals' second 1st round pick if we got both of their 1sts.

He is really good and has great athletic ability. He battled injurys toward the end of the season but I didnt see him as dominant every snap guy.

Copels has the potential and has room to grow where Ingram is kinda capped out physically already.

With that said i think DT, CB, OG are bigger needs as the DT can push up the middle Hardy would have had 10+ sacks as he beat the edge a lot but the QB just stepped up in the pocket with little inside pressure.

I think Ingram is closer to Greg Hardy than CJ. (if we are comparing a guy on the Panther .

In college ill take Ingram over Coples in a heartbeat however.

    • I agree. I’d make the move because I don’t see us sniffing the playoffs and let’s be honest TMac, Legette and Coker better be our top 3 future. If they aren’t and we need Thielen to replace one of them, then we need to draft yet another 1st round WR, SMH. Suffice it to say, Thielen isn’t good enough to get us into the playoffs so let’s get the young guys starting so we know if they aren’t good enough. We still have so many assumptions about whether players are who we need them to be that holding onto Thielen for 3-7 wins isn’t worth passing on a mid round pick (3rd to 5th/swaps). We’ve had some success with later round picks/UDFAs and need depth.
    • If you move Thielen I think you almost have to keep Renfrow. You need some sort of veteran presence in the locker room and Renfrow would be good insurance in the slot. I'm sure we have Coker penciled in to start there but you also have to be keeping Coker in the back of your head as XL insurance on the outside if he doesn't step up. If he flounders again, I wouldn't wait too awfully long to replace him with Coker outside and slide Renfrow into the slot and keep it moving.
    • Playing the same role is different than having the same style.  Cam Newton and Drew Brees both played QB but arent the same type in any way.
