Worst Case Scenario

IMO the worst case scenario is that the guys we are targeting are taken ahead of us, Richardson drops to us and no one wants to trade up. Let's say these are the first 8 drafted players:

Andrew Luck

RG3

Matt Kalil

Morris Claiborne

Justin Blackmon

Quinton Coples

Reilly Reiff

Michael Brockers

If we have to pick a guy at 9 with what is left, who do you take?

Options include:

Janoris Jenkins

Devon Still

David DeCastro

Melvin Ingram

Jonathon Martin

Dre Kirkpatrick

Other

I would take Jenkins out of that group. I think he has shutdown talent, just a little small. Either way, if Richardson falls out of the top 8 and someone else doesn't sneak up (Tannehill, Floyd, Wright), we will get a lesser talent than what I am hoping for.

Well technically, I think the worst case scenario is humanity is wiped off the face of the earth before the draft, but I am trying to work within the confines of reality.

No, that is not the worst case as it would save us the humiliation of having a bag of chips as our franchise quarterback.

Or Jimmy Clausen, which might be even worse, since we all know Otah would eat the bag of chips before it ever hit the field.

I think you are right on target.

Losing the coin flip screwed us pretty bad. What you have to look to is Buffalo. What are their biggest needs? A 3-4 OLB followed by an OT. Now, what we have to hope is that someone like Upshaw blows it up and someone(Jets) want to move in front of Buffalo.

Otherwise, we have to take a guy who has a mid teen grade at 9

Which of the remaining names is likely to be in the pro bowl for the next 10 years.

I take DeCastro, cut Wharton, use the $$ saved to sign an OLB and a S.

Or take DeCastro, pair him with Wharton and a resurgent Otah and have the offence put up 45mins TOP every game.

    • It's crazy with how much winning was going on when we had a little cool off period that we're still just a couple games out of 6th. Moussa is getting better every week and Coby is getting comfortable. Would be nice to get to 6 but I think this team is a lot more stacked than the last couple play ins. I can't remember the exact rules but if you're 7th seed and win the first game I think you automatically move on and don't have to play the second game?
    • I think it was a thing for sure. Panthers weren’t too many people’s first choice. Or 5th choice.  2022 and 2023… coaches fired mid season. Consecutive years. You want any of that?  He has definitely overseen a rehab of how the Panthers are perceived. Because we are a place that is seen as up and coming. And just the little thing of he accommodated Theilen so graciously, that gets noticed. It all adds up. Dan is doing a lot of things right, probably most things.  Needs a good draft.
    • K, I think that is dumb, but you do you. I didn't find anything online that made him out to be a dislikable person. I am certain the Panthers would have cared so much if they lost your fandom if they hired Sean Payton. But bet you would have come crawling back if Sean lead us to a Super Bowl victory or Golden leads UNC to a champion ship. It is easy to say you are gonna leave a team if the hire someone you dislike when the chips are down. But people like you tend to come crawling back once the team finds success.
