Steve Smith: A receiver's receiver

Too many WRs are going jump him statistically in the near future.

I think for him to make a run he will need playoff runs (multiple) with big stats...... if he could put up big postseason number he could go down as one of the best postseason WRs of all time (he has a good start) to go on top of his regular season stuff.

I don't know about too many WRs jumping him.

With the current passing game transitioning more to a spread-type offense, it's more about the match up than 'go to #1 and let him make a play.'

This also leads to more and more TEs taking catches and yards away from WRs.

Very dominate WRs will still get theirs, but the yards in general should be more spread out among WRs than the past.

I agree with the playoffs though. Really need to get him to another super bowl.

Statistically he's on course to have a very, very legitimate HoF resume'.

Get the man a Ring.

Not when you factor in what others WRs of this era are doing....the ones who came in a couple years later.

To date, Smitty doesn't even have Ochocinco numbers. The Calvin Johnsons, Andre Johnsons, Larry Fitz type guys are simply going to have better resumes. Criteria is going to be much tougher on these guys in the passing era than those back in the day. WRs in this era are just on pace to jump him....lesser WRs than those like a Calvin Johnson.

Now if he can make a run at being a top 3 playoff WR on top of his regular season production....

Just look at the stats those not in Calvin Johnson's tier are putting up.....like a Colston for example. Steve is going to be in a log jam. Will need something to separate himself. His postseason production is good.....he needs about 8 more postseason games.

The Colstons and Jennings of the NFL may have similar stats, but anyone who knows football understands the intangibles and incredible playmaking that set Steve apart. Honestly, if he has a couple more very good years his temper and past incidents may very well be a bigger issue to some of the voters.

Well, numbers will matter...

And the Fitzgeralds and Calvins will simply have much better resumes.....

Not sure how the Reggie Waynes, Steve Smiths, and Ochocincos are going to have a legit shot. Smitty will need something to change...just putting in a couple thousand yard seasons with nothing drastically changing will make him a longshot.

Cris Carter and the likes are struggling to get in and there isn't much WR competition right now.....WR pool will be very watered down and MUCH tougher for these current guys

Jabberwockie: Thinks Steve Smith is one of the greatest receivers of all time and doesn't care what anyone else has to say about it. He hopes that Steve Smith makes the Hall of Fame because he believes there hasn't truly been a receiver like him in the history of the NFL!
