Coach Rivera Says "adding Lb Depth Important"

What don't you like about David being the WLB?

Don't get me wrong. I like David very much but with our needs at cb/dl, for me I think it'll be a reach for David at 40th. I'll rather take a cb there and look for a lb in the fourth bc there's depth with lb in this draft.

The reason why I said i would only take brown or hightower at no.40 is bc they're BPA if they falls that far to us. David wouldn't be consider BPA imo.

Linebackers aren't valued in todays nfl.

I couldn't disagree more with this statement. With the rise of the TE position in "today's NFL" as you put it, the LB position has never been more important. LBers will have to check these TE's and if they can't keep up, u will get burned every time!

You would think after the way the Panthers have been abused by TEs over they years that they would figure out we need linebackers who can cover in zone coverage. Everyone else in the division has at least 1 premier TE who love to play us.

If Beason and Davis never recover we will rue passing on Kuechly. I just think dline and cb are bigger needs. Linebackers aren't valued in todays nfl.

I agree....I just don't agree this draft is how that becomes corrected. Specifically the DT spot. Grab a vet and let the young guys develop.....or grab a comparable DT in the 2nd to what you would get at 9.

Claiborne would be ideal falling. But LB is a need. Gap between LB talent is big between our first 2 picks.....isn't for DT

If Rivera is going to pick a lb at all, it'll be in the fourth or if we trade back up though. Unless brown or hightower is there.

They key word in rivera's statement is 'depth', not 'upgrade' the position.

Upgrading the position creates depth.

Kuechly at #9 is not that bad a pick imo. He's by far the best LB in this draft.

There are no elite DTs imo in this draft(had hopes for Brockers) & we don't know how how the coaching staff views Fua/McClain/Shirley/Edwards.

For me we'll take Coples/Kuechly/Reiff/Ingram at #9. Unless we trade back. (Claiborne won't fall)

That's very true and for some reason I knew someone were going to say that. But, dt and cb is much more important. It's going to be harder finding gems at dt/cb in this draft than lb later.

There are also a ton of comparable DTs to whoever goes off the board first. There aren't comparable LBs to Luke.

    • I agree with this and I think it's worth mentioning too that Bryce is not consistent on his placement and especially velocity and that in large part is driven by his footwork. We all know XL doesn't have the best hands and I don't know that he can overcome that. Cam always had the heater that just hit your hands and sank into your grip, where Bryce has some that are harder thrown, some soft. Bryce stepping into a pass looks so much different than that hop throw thing he does. I think XL really needs to hit the jugs machine and start learning how to catch all these different touch passes. TMac and Coker don't have these issues. If XL doesn't get some work in he's going to be out of the league in the next couple of years.
    • I think most people like XL from a personal standpoint. I don't think he's stupid either. Although if we are being realistic he is lacking in football IQ at this point in time and it cannot be disputed that he has not taken working on his craft seriously at all times given the body of work on the field. It speaks for itself. I myself have defended him at times given the circumstances of our QB room. But he is now in his third year and 25 years old. We are not in a position as a franchise to go around babying anyone especially first round draft picks. He needs to take his position and his football career seriously or he is going to end up selling used cars somewhere. I hope he realizes this and takes an extended break from social media because that mess certainly isn't going to increase his net worth if he ends up out of the league. And these hanger on types will disappear quick too once that money dries up and it surely will eventually. We'll see how he responds.
