Eagles Are Willing To Trade Samuel For A 5Th Or A 6Th

He wants out of Philly just as bad as Philly wants to drop him. I think he would be willing to take a pay cut.

It's already been reported he'd take 2.5 off and that was awhile back. Maybe now we can get it down a little more.

I saw him interviewed yesterday that he "loves" Philly, that Philly is home and it is the best place he has played his entire career. He was specific that he wants to stay in Philly but also, when asked if he will be there next season he said it was "up to the front office".

revealing that he was interviewed just outside the Philly gym where he was supposedly turned away from participating in "voluntary workouts". The eagles are worried that if he got injured in the weight room they could be on the hook for his contract regardless.

Why would anyone trade for him? He is obviously going to be cut, wait and then negotiate a reasonable contract. or don't.

meh

Not going to happen because he wouldn't be worth more than vet min or a bit higher in Carolina, but more importantely he is worth more to other teams. Not only would he have to take a pay cut to go to another team, he'd have to take an even bigger one to come here.

Oh really?

@ProFootbalFocus: Asante Samuel may be a better CB than people realize. Was thrown at deep (20+) 12 times last year, allowed 1 catch. @AdamSchefter

@ProFootbalFocus: The list of WRs on Samuel's deep throws is interesting btw, includes Larry Fitz, Nicks, Julio Jones, Victor Cruz, Stevie Johnson

Quote

@ProFootbalFocus: Samuel allowed just 10.2 yards a catch, a QB rating of 52.4, and surrendered only 296 yards. That's over 700 fewer than Tramon Williams

This makes more sense for a team trying to win now or else, like the Broncos or Ravens.

We are trying to win now. That's why Rivera said they want to draft immediate starters, not projects. We aren't as far away from contending as some here think. At least the coaches and players don't feel that way.

I thought the Broncos offered a 5th or 6th and the offer was turned down? Or maybe Samuel nixed the deal by refusing to re-do his contract.

He's going to have to re-work his contract for a deal to get done. That contract is killing his value and putting the ball in his court. If he doesn't want to go to a team, he can just refuse to re-work that contract and the deal is over. He can sit tight and force his release if he wants.

He'd hugely upgrade our secondary, but we can't come close to affording what he's currently making. I'm not sure we could even afford half of it.

Oh really?

huh?

My point: Carolina won't pay him what other teams would, if he did come here I'd imagine him having to take a bigger cut compared to other options.

Your point: He can still play?

Play or not, the Panthers don't seem to have the money to bring him in was my point.

Of course I am not following the cap all that much but even so, we have out Asante in Gamble, much like philly realized stacking CBs is really just backfiring with their scheme. As tarheel23 already pointed out, it would be somewhat similar to here, not saying we have the talent they do at CB, but with the draft I hope one is taking in the first or second. Maybe further in the year when contracts like Whartons' affect us will this be more feasible.

At his current contract rates and even with -2.5 I just don't see us bringing him in. Bottom line it, his contract is the main problem.

Great in what?? Our scheme or Philly's. If he was so awesome than why did they bring in Asomugha and are willing to give him away?

Um....didn't we just bring in Jim Johnson's under study to be our DC? What scheme was Samuel playing under Jim Johnson and then McD in Philly?

They brought in Asomugha last offseason. Same offseason they tried to get rid of Samuel.....same offseason the JJ43 was moving to Carolina.

Samuel would be a great fit....pending he and McD didnt have issues in the past. You know...when they worked together in the same scheme we now plan to run.

    • I really appreciate Bill explaining his methodology here because that gives interested parties a chance to try and recreate the results themselves. I believe that it's safe to assume that despite emphasis being placed on WRs that Chuba Hubbard is one of the Panthers' top-5 weapons. Considering targets, yardage, receptions, etc... Adam Thielen and Xavier Legette are also on the list. Jalen Coker's success might have snuck him in there as well. I can't draw a conclusion on who #5 is though. I've narrowed it down to Diontae Johnson, David Moore, Ja'Tavion Sanders, and possibly Rico Dowdle if they're taking into account his production for the Cowboys in 2024.
    • Unfortunately business is business especially when there are large sums of money on the table. Goes the same for player and ownership. Does not make it right either way.  Why would he not want to play for the niners? Closer to home with a team that has a chance of delivering a SB trophy.
    • I don’t know if it’s him bad mouthing his former situation in public or my pettiness but either way I’m not a fan. Dude was on playoff teams getting paid millions to entertain. I’m not better that because and I am better than that. You don’t bad mouth your former employer in public. Esp after getting over paid and two, poor little Russian baby didn’t get the playing spot he wanted. Rod had him exactly where is was supposed to be.  He had a mean lip check and did defend our players. Specifically the devils game around Christmas where is our Haula on his ass. Cool. Thank you. But don’t talk poo about us. Because it make you look like Haula.    “need to get as far away as possible”. fug off. Didn’t see Burnsy bad mouthing and his play dropped off too.    sorry, but Orlov doesn’t get a pass from me. See you twice a year…
