Panthers Latest Salary Cap Figures.

Keep Pounding

Imagine that.

We have 71 players under contract, and will be more than $10 million under the cap come June 1st. Not bad at all.

People that get overly concerned about our cap position forget that this is what these people do for a living. Hurney may do some stupid stuff from time to time, but he knows how to manage the cap.

Also, if the Falcons are so strapped for cash, how are they in talks for Asante?

I really do think that was just a leverage ploy/power play to get Grimes to sign his franchise tag and come to OTAs. I don't think they had real interest in Samuel and obviously it worked since Grimes was spooked into signing the tag.

Only the 51 of the 71 players count towards the cap so yeah, we are still sitting pretty good. To get more, we can even restructure Gross' contract which I don't think we didn't yet.

now, if carolina doesnt use it, they can carry it over to the next year? possibly use towards resigning jstew? I'm thinking they will hold onto it to see who shakes loose from other teams com august.

Yep, I think that's what the team will end up doing. They might sign one or two guys in August, but the majority of that cap room makes it to next season.

Very, very good... We need to make sure we resign Stew, (if he wants to stay, of course).

Would love to see Stewart resigned and would be nice to see Deangelo restructure his contract to open up some space but that might come next offseason...

Yes, I forgot to mention that we'd need D Will to regnotiate his contract. I'm not sure why we paid that much to resign D Will or C Johnson. I think that they both would've resigned for less, maybe I'm wrong though.

Looked like to me that Richardson was trying to set the market value for a bunch of positions and it appeared that the owners needed to start paying players right after the lockout in order to gain some sort of credibility back with them. The owners had to show that they would live up to there end of the bargain. Richardson, being the former player, was the owner most likely to start this movement to paying out big contracts, being respected as he is amongst the owners (a man who intends to better the sport and not extort it).

. . . also people were calling him cheap but I dont think he factored that in, it was just a bonus.

    • And, yes, I've been a slow boil, but watching continually watching shitty displays of football for weeks has me frustrated.
    • Bryce just didn't maximize Hunter Renfrow's skills. ***rant incoming*** But this isn't just about Bryce Young mistiming passes to Renfrow so bad that he's going to get Renfrow killed or hurt, this is also about incompetentence by Dave Canales. Renfrow can still play. He's putting DBs in a blender out there---making them play twister at the top of routes to keep up with him, and dumb Dave has the nerve to cut him. How about putting Hunter in the best position to help the damned offense by appreciating his skill set, DC? You're letting Bryce's apparent inability to make an accurate throw, or at least his timidity to push the ball down the damned field cloud your judgment and miscalculate talent---or maybe just miss on talent just as much as Bryce misses passes due to playing pussified football. It's fúcking unacceptable.  Speaking of misjudgment, I don't know if it's Dan Morgan or Canales, but Eijiro Evero is not the business at DC. I have said a few times that his scheme is not conducive to run-stopping efficiency. Hell, and after watching some clips of plays, now I absolutely know why. The gaps are at least half open before the play even fúcking starts. You are setting the opposition's RBs up for success with too much damned space at the line and in the second level. If our guys are taken out in these areas---at the line and in the second level---then the defense is screwed because it must rely on the safeties to cover too much ground to make the tackle. At least put Ransom in who is motivated to seek and destroy if you're going to effectively leave the safeties on an island.  And speaking of rookies, get our two new defensive ends more snaps to see if we can't generate more of a pass rush. For all the good the continued sorry display of defense that you're putting out for fan's to see (Ejiro, Dave and Dan), you may as well get the rookies generously involved. Fúck that money we gave second-rate (maybe second-rate) vets, we need a damned spark getting after the QB. Watch it, it's just another breakdown of the sh¡t we were subjected to last week. I say this with all respect: Fúck you, Dave! Fúck you, Dan! Learn how to run a fúcking franchise. Maximize the players, regardless of what you think you're supposed to do by the book. Cut the dead weight before another season is lost and fans lose interest in September. EE is "Ew!" Or for emphasis "EEw!" /end rant
    • But nobody is saying he is a good deep ball passer.  But the facts are since he's returned from his benching, he has been throwing downfield.  Whether you want to credit the scheme, Bryce himself, or whatever, he has been pushing it deep.  Not to any positive results mind you, but it has been happening.
