We Have No Pass-Rush Or Secondary

Dude.

How much have you had to drink tonight?

Gamble is an All-Pro caliber CB, who was absolutely shut down last season.

na dude .. he had a decent season .. but look at his career as a whole

teams ran the ball against us last season because of our DT and LB situation .. and targeted the other side of the field based on the HUGE drop off in talent .. I don't think Gamble's season was necessarily based on his talent .. there were myriad other factors

I know that DT's take more than a rookie season to contribute. I am just smart enough to let a guy develop than make a knee jerk decision.

Our DT's were two rookies thrown to the wolves last season. No ota's... Both starters rookies.

Anyone that we would have taken this year would have faired about the same as Fua and McClain did.

I greatly disagree,You mean to tell me brockers, cox, and poe are no better than fua and mcclain? I would give you credit if you can name 4 plays each where they even flashed ability. I understand Dts take a while to develope but if you are a nfl caliber starter,I exspect you to atleast flash. Give the team areason to believe in you. Hogan gets a pass due to injury but beyond him and cam its hard to put much faith in anyone else in last years class sir.

I don't have a problem if fans want to critize the FO for not addressing positions via FA. And alot of the W-L comments about Hurney are relavent. But if you are mad about not drafting for need then I have a hard time respecting that.

I heard a GM say this past offseason that you draft BPA in the draft and fill the holes via FA the next offseason. That's why last year was so interesting with FA because it was completely different than what usually happens.

Some of you have already written off many players on this team. It's sad because there are some talented kids on this roster that need time to develope. I remember a time when people wanted Charles Johnson and James Anderson cut and replaced by other draft picks.

I can't speak for everyone but for those of you who are hating this draft, I will try my best to respect you and your opinions but you have to do the same for those of us who like the draft so far and willing to give more time for players to develope.

The thing most people forget is that last year rivers stated that wins and losses were not the main focus. He repeated that all he was asking of this team was to play hard and compete. We did both of those things very well and no one can deny that. Eliminate or limit the injuries and let the coaching staff put in their full scheme and we are in goooood shape. This team is still the same team that every panther fan projected to be a perenial player. I have the utmost respect for our coaches and our talent. We added pieces to our super bowl puzzle. Now let's put it together.

I agree with op. None of our draft picks fix any of our biggest issues from last year. You don't have to be a nfl gm to see a botched draft.

So, the revolving door at LBer wasn't a big issue from last year?

TD is gone, and Beason may still not be ready to start the season.

Not to mention, our interior line was almost literally a revolving door itself.

I remember people wanting Anderson and Johnson to be given a chance. Especailly Johnson. He was beastly.

For those saying this is a "Hurney Draft"

Steve Reed@SteveReed_AP

Panthers did not trade up in the third round although Ron Rivera had been egging on Marty Hurney to "work his magic."

Oh course this was going to happen. Hurney makes the final call. That is why he is the GM. Ron is the HC. Ron has no power in what goes on with the players we get from FA and the draft. All Ron can do is suggest and give his opinion on who might best fit their game plan. The rest is up to Hurney.

    • Winning culture trumps ALL.    Here’s my way to long take:  Last season this team started out breaking the sports books and being the lead pipe lock of the week. They finished by being a tough out for both SB teams.  I don’t think they’ll pick up right where they left off, but for the first time in years they’re on the legitimate upswing. Honest to God NFL talent has been infused.  Offense is already going to be good for 2-3 more 3rd down conversions (I don’t think anyone will argue that) a game over last year so I’ll go (very optimistically) 5-6 more points better than last year’s team. ADDED: A legit backup RB and a money WR who catches everything, along with 2 promising rooks. No significant losses (sorry Miles). KEYS: Can Dave bob and weave play calling if things aren’t working? Does protection continue to hold for Bryce. Did this team pick up dudes who know how to find the end zone or will the struggle of 3rd and goal continue.  Defense. If they can force even 2 (hopefully 3) more stops a game on third down (not asking a lot, hopefully more), that’s good for -4 (optimistic) points for opposing teams.  ADDED: legit run stuffers. Legit (appearing) edge guys. LOST: Clowney. Question: With legit 3-4 talent can Evero finally show what we have been VERY patiently waiting on? To me, EVERYTHING on defense hinges on Evero. Everything. Every position group was upgraded (still not good enough, but certainly improved).  Losing Brown early and Luvu… completely and utterly devastated the run defense. Luvu put up one of the best seasons at LB this team has ever seen. His under appreciation by some fans was criminal. He alone was our 3 down stop machine. Brown was pretty much it up front. Those 2 held RBs in check long enough for safety help to arrive.  Coaching: Halftime adjustments and no prevent defense. In a nutshell, that’s pretty much it. No cutesy offense to show off WRs/Bryce when it’s not working. Use your sledgehammers, Dave.  There is finally veteran leadership and legit NFL talent. It’s going in the right direction (I couldn’t have been more wrong last offseason) to build a winning culture, but teams have to learn how to win, especially the games where nothing is going right (this team has NEVER been able to do that). They will still lose more close games than they win, and that alone is where it all hinges.
    • With his current level of play I'm quite content to not activate his 5th year option and let him walk away for free after year 4.
    • Self described anti-Bryce dude wants us to fail to take a major step forward     Yeah that lines up.
