prob didn't deserve its own thread .. but I thought some may want to see this without it being buried in another thread

@CBSSportsNFLCAR: #panthers Rivera optimistic LBs Beason, Davis will return from injury http://t.co/k1myH9ed

Coach Ron Rivera remains optimistic ILB Jon Beason (Achilles) and OLB Thomas Davis (left ACL) will contribute this season. Beason is penciled in as a starter, flanked by veteran James Anderson and rookie Luke Kuechly. “Based on what I've seen, it's just a matter of time before they're 100 percent,” Rivera said after Friday's rookie minicamp.

I think they misinterpreted what Rivera said.

"We'll start out with (Kuechly) on the outside, and Jon will be on the inside," Rivera said of the Panthers' first-round draft pick. "I've talked with Jon about playing inside and outside. It will be an interesting experiment as we go through this. Quite frankly, we want to make sure we put the best combination of players on the football field."

He said start out on the outside, not that Keechly will be the starter.

There seems to be this thought process that he's possibly not going to be the starter, among some posters here......

Much like Cam wasn't the "starter" at the beginning of camp last year, it's all irrelevant, he's going to start.

Whoa, you are predicting a top 10 draft pick to be a starter.... don't put yourself out on a limb like that!

lol Precisely. Honestly, anyone who doesn't think Kuechly will start... is frankly a little delusional.

He's going to be the starter.

Exactly. I love beast mode but homers need wake up and see what our new guy can do. This may be one of the best technical tacklers to ever come out and he is hands down one of the top 3 cover LB's coming out. The guy is VERY smart, reads plays quickly and brings the hammer.

I hate to break it to some, but Rivera didn't draft him 9th to back up someone.

Kuechly is replacing Davis, not Beason.

If Luke plays MIKE, Beason plays WILL. If Luke plays WILL, Beason plays MIKE. Davis is playing the bench.

    • It’ll be interesting to see how the board falls I completely agree with you on TE for us The safety from Oregon would be the cherry on top for Evero’s defense/scheme.  If a OL’men is there that you love it would be very hard to pass up. This fan base seems to just see Walker as a stop gap but I wouldn’t be so sure. He’s the same age as Ekwonu. He’s had a much more impressive career arc/progression than Icky has. He’s the better pass protector. As far as I see it if Walker has a good year I’d bring him back over Icky. Ekwonu isn’t some elite franchise LT. Playing next to Lewis is going to be great for Walker much like it has been for Icky. We definitely need to get younger/cheaper on the OL though so for this reason alone it’s still top of my list come round 1 if board falls this way  Could also use another corner with Mike Jackson’s deal up after this season and needing a nickel but Corey Thornton looked really good in that role in the limited time we got to see him. However he’s coming off an achillies injury and you never know with those.  Then as mentioned above we do still have a need at WR. As far as “weapons” go it’s kind of a 2 man show with Tmac and Coker and neither is a burner. If Jordan Tyson is there at 19 and we can have a young WR group locked up for cheap that’s a huge advantage cap wise  And don’t forget linebacker. That clip in Devin’s Lloyd blueprint they used from Evero saying they need more intelligence there could’ve been left out for Wallace’s sake but it’s true. Wallace is lost in coverage. Pair a smart linebacker with Lloyd and that’s a group with Wallace and Cherelus being depth
    • The fact that this is even a discussion is a testament of the level of front office badassery that's going on.
    • Not always. LT was for the Giants. So was Ray Lewis. Von Miller was moreso than Manning his final year in the season that shall not be named. It's usually the QB, but not always.
