"I fully expect the Carolina Panthers to win the Super Bowl next year. That's my expectations," Davis said. "Everybody's talking about (how) we'll make the playoffs. So what? Anybody can make the playoffs. We're trying to win the Super Bowl."

Those lofty expectations are new for Davis. While he said the Panthers' goal was to win the Super Bowl last year, he said he did not truly expect for it to happen in 2011.

"Last year we didn't really know what to expect," Davis said. "We had a new offense. Everything was new. We didn't really have time to come together in the offseason because of the lockout. So we really went into last season not knowing what to expect."

"As a team, your goal every year should be to win the Super Bowl. That's what it was going in. But it was a lot different last year than this year right now because we know what to expect from our offense. We know what kind of defensive guys we've got once we get out there and get everybody healthy and put it all together. So we know what we're capable of doing. It's all about going out and executing and doing it."

i absolutely love it. sounds like that confidence and level of expectation is prevelant throughout the team. i believe they can pull it off.

I do realize that as fans we are programmed to have high expectations. But there is a different felling this year. Which is why I believe there is so much harping going on now. Because we have our Franchise QB, some fans are less patient than others. Whether it is the instant world or just self absorbsion, there are fans that cannot wait for the team to be a finished product.

I also realize that the negative nancy types have been around a long time, and they are not going anywhere soon. The good thing is they are a minority. With a side effect of most being more entertaining than annoying.

When you are young you have to let the talent play out. It is an unfortunate neccessiity of building. We are close, close enough to be scary. If the if's get answered, we will take another step up the ladder. The next off-season very welll could finish the building proccess, which should finish that climb, and position us on the verge of that elite group.

Being scary is cool, don't get me wrong. But I am positively giddy over the prospects for the future.

I have a request. Please do not use a players college performance against him. Plenty of players blossom when they hit the big time. It is called exceeding expectations, and it happens quite a bit. It is the main reason fans get excited over young players. Is this the guy that explodes? It is the reason I go to Training Camp.

Ah hell, unlike the Panthers, I am finished. And WE WILL HAVE A MUCH IMPROVED D THIS YEAR.

    • I do think the rating is fair given how this unit hasn’t proven it with production. I understand you have to rank off production, not potential. However, our unit is also in a position to make this rating look foolish a year from now. We have 4 guys in the WR/TE room who all could legitimately take the next step this year, and catapult our rank. A guy under a lot of people’s radar after we took Tet, Jalen Coker. Mark my words, he will become the star of this room, and be the heir to Thielen.
    • Exactly. You’d think 2-7 wins a year (in a 17 game season no less) since 2017 is going to keep us bottom tier. Every year we say the same poo like we haven’t been a bad team the past 7 years. Until we prove we aren’t a bottom dweller, that’s where we’ll stay ranked. God forbid we have OL injuries like 2016.
    • What I love and hate about this team is it’s more filled with potential breakout players than ever before. JT, XL, Coker, Smith-Wade, Ikem, Trevin… and even Bryce are all guys I could legitimately see taking the next step. But the problem with having so many of those guys is that team success somewhat relies on them taking that step, and some are bound not to. That being said, I’m cautiously optimistic given our softer schedule, the way the offense clicked late last year, and the direction we finally have at GM, coach, and QB. Could see us as a sneaky playoff team.
