Who is butt hurt other than Fowler? All I see is everyone saying it's no big deal and giving Fowler poo for attempting to make it an issue?

Remember when Rivera was hired? Fowler kept trying to take the "first Latino head coach" angle during the first couple press conferences. Rivera was like, dude I'm from Cali and my parents were US military.

Observer commenters, local radio hosts and callers, a few scattered people in this thread are what's out there. Anecdotally, I've heard water cooler talk about the same thing at the office, and I would imagine that there are more instances like that. The problem is that a lot of people who aren't as informed get their news from the observer.

I regularly watch First Take everyday and Skip Bayless had a huge problem with it. Rob Parker, who was debating Skip, said it was no big deal. He said that if people don't want to pay the money for the autograph then don't go. Just go to training camp and get an autograph there for free. People is making a big deal out of nothing.

When The Golden Calf of Bristol does it, it's no big deal. Even RGIII done the same thing and it wasn't a big deal. When Cam Newton does it, all hell breaks loose. People that's complaining that he shouldn't be doing this should get the fug outta here and go kick rocks.

I am willing to hazzard a guess on this as well. I Bet the majority of the people who feel this is all just fine and dandy are the younger ones. And the ones who feel betrayed are ... elderly. Old schoolers still think autographs are a personal thing, which they can be. But it is big big big business nowadays.

I am old school, and I originally thought about Cam's Foundation when I heard this. But, I have no problem with any athlete suplementing their income by signing autographs. It does give fans an opportunity to meet their heros'. And I am behind that.

That said. Calling Charlotte small time just because a few hundred people are all butthurt is... well, small time. Get over yourself. Progress is not a stable entity. Don't try and make it one.

We need to come up with a term for all Cam non-controversies that get pumped out by the media every 6 weeks or so. I'm calling them Camtroversies. WFNZ boosted its ratings by 74% in 2011 by mandating a certain amount of Cam Newton talk per show every single day. It works. People can't get enough of Cam, good or bad in Charlotte. He's like Sarah Palin or Obama or Kim Kardashian. People click on Cam articles, they tune in when he's being talked about on ESPN or WFNZ. They buy papers from that dying Charlotte Observer when he's on the front page of the sports section. They post about him on the Huddle.

The Observer has become more and more tabloidish over the past few years as it sees the writing on the wall for its parent company going bankrupt. It's forced to put out stupid poo like this that panders to the lowest common denominator to extend its very life.

o rly?

get out...

still don't know why anyone is ever surprised or think it's noteworthy that he says anything.

Well... if Skip was arguing against Cam, someone had to be arguing for Cam. Skip can't argue both sides at once. Even he is not that good.

People need something to bitch about. And they will find it. Nothing can be, nor ever has been, done to change that. Whiners gotta whine. I should know, I was King of the Whiners back in the day. It just takes to much energy anymore.

This is just getting outrageous, raising hell over a fee to sign a autograph when your fatass can drive to Spartansburg to get a FREE autograph. Our fans are REALLY, REALLY close-minded they're not doing any justice to the stereotype of southern ignorance.

Watch the show a few more times and see if you notice a pattern with how the hosts approach a topic. Watch or listen to any show about any topic that has two hosts.

it's sickeningly predictable and i can't for the life of me see how people can tolerate so much of it, much less watch it every day. not just them, btw. it's arguing for arguing's sake and they usually aren't even all that good at it.

It's like The View for unemployed dudes. I don't know how anyone could watch it long enough or not just laugh at anything they try to cover.

    • Also, just for clarity, is this thread meant for general discussion of Bryce Young, or discussion of General Bryce Young?
    • The word I feel most comfortable using as a descriptor is "inconsistent". Haven't really seen anyone disagree with that. Consistency being one of the things I value most in a player, that makes me lean toward moving on. But he does still have both time and opportunity to prove otherwise. Mind you, having a streaky quarterback isn't exactly a new thing in Charlotte (you could argue it's been the norm). Delhomme was notorious for starting slow but finishing strong. He could sadly also find hos way into ruts that were difficult to crawl out of. Newton, on the other hand, was often known to start hot but fade late (the vast majority of the 2015 season followed that pattern) though it could be argued that was a team pattern as much as it was Cam's.  There are definitely some fans for whom this is always going to be a bridge too far. (or too short) Realistically, it's not impossible that he could still have a good career even with those issues. It's a damn sight more difficult, though. And arguably, less likely.
    • Oh, I did, and they weren't based in emotions either. Granted, characterizing them that way gives you an easy out to avoid responding to them. Similar tactic to dismissing the other guy's points with "nah, you didn't really watch the games" which saves you having to debate what he said. Strikes me as a kinda lazy way to go, but hey both elements are still back there if you feel up to trying later.
