Beason talks about camp, his recovery, and his old buddy Vilma's troubles

Joe Person is reporting that Beason appears recovered from the achilles injury and has been working hard especially the last few weeks, Instead of taking time off, he has continued to work hard on his rehab and teammates are very optimistic.

Panthers tight end Greg Olsen posted on Twitter that he had worked out with Beason for the past week.

“Trust me he will be fine,” tweeted Olsen, who played with Beason at Miami. “He looks like he did in college at 21 (years) old.”

Beason meanwhile intends to start off camp with the 1s with no restrictions or concerns.

“I’ll be out there. I’ll take the reps with the ones (first-teamers),” Beason said. “Camp is a grind. I expect it to be sore. You’re going to have good days and bad days. It’s just camp, even if you are healthy. Getting in football shape is always a tough task. I’ll do as much as I can and be smart about it.”

Miami guys stick together and Beason is no exception. He supports Vilma and like most employees resents the bosses power which in this case is the league and Goodell.

“It’s tough in our league because Goodell’s rule is law. There’s no one to really challenge him or go against him,” Beason said. “Obviously, he’s probably bouncing stuff off people.

“But it’s tough because when you do file an appeal, the appeal goes through him. Well, he issued it. So it’s like, what is the point or the purpose for having an appeal process?”

Beason hopes Goodell will allow Vilma to play this year while investigating the matter further.

every time i think a top ten or fifteen defense is too tall of an order at this time i remember that rivera did the exact same thing with bottom-ranked defenses in chicago and san diego. by year three both of them were number one squads in the league.

I think the classroom sessions they missed last year were very instrumental in how we performed, or the lack there of.

i think that was a huge thing. with all the changes in the line ups and 2nd and 3rd stringers they had to use they had no chance to get into any kind of groove or employ much of the defensive playbook. they just didn't have the personnel they needed or were counting on to pull off the things they wanted to do.

that just won't be the case this year.

he will make the defense soo much better..we underestimate how much he does for us

and how much the coaching staff was planning on using him and TD last year. LBs are evidently the focal point of this defense.

this year and going forward with beason and keuchly i think we are in for one beast of a defense done rivera style.

Hence, the optimism our D WILL make a dramatic jump this year. A greater understanding of the D, coupled with a year of continuity has to make a huge difference in our D. Everyone is a year better just as a course of action. More teaching and coaching just heightens that.

There is talent on our D. With everything you have mentioned. How can you not be excited at the possibilities? Well, there are plenty of folks who still believe we are what we were. No imagination to see the forest from the trees.

    • Didn't  see this posted (since 2023) but since folks have been posting that you can't judge a draft class for three years (a ridiculous take), I thought I'd post this to see what people thought about the 2023 draft. Unfortunately this may not be the most interesting class to do this with but I do quite like retrospective draft grades. Would appreciate other's takes on this (and other recent) draft classes.   1(1) - Bryce Young QB: I am a bigger Bryce Young apologist than most (maybe all). I like the kid. But there is no way around it: This was a terrible pick. If he had been picked in the 4th or even the 3rd round I would feel pretty good about it. But this was the first overall pick that we gave up two firsts, our best offensive player to get.  GRADE: C -    2(39) - Jonathan Mingo WR: not much to say here here. He was here for two years. His yards per catch are on par with Bryce's yards per pass. Rough stuff. To date he has still never scored a touchdown in the NFL GRADE: F   3(80) - DJ Johnson OLB: a pick I hated as soon as it happened and an example of why the premise of this thread is honestly dumb. This was a bad pick when it happened. Most people knew it.  Then came training camp and he did not look good. Then came the preseason which confirmed what we saw in TC. Then came the season which confirmed what we saw in preseason. To date, he has half a sack in his career. GRADE: F 4 (114) Chandlers Zavala G: Honestly the best pick of this draft which really speaks to how awful this draft is. Other than Bryce, the only pick still on the team. He is mostly average or below average depth which in round 4 is not terrible. But he had a pff score of 43.5 and though I think people have unrealistic expectations for draft picks, I still would want a little more from a fourth round pick GRADE: C+   5 (145) - Jammie Robinson S: I liked the pick when it happened but ended up being a disappointment. He logged 1 tackle with the falcons last year and not enough snaps to get a grade on PFF.  GRADE: F OVERALL DRAFT GRADE: F
