Brown's the man for Carolina's plan

If he keeps saying and doing the right things, I think I am really going to like this guy. Good article. GO PANTHERS!!

The soccer games were finished that Saturday for Everette Brown and his younger brother Tobias. Now it was time for their weekly treat: lunch at McDonald's on the way home.

But as their father, Odell, started the car for the short drive from Wilson to Stantonsburg in Eastern North Carolina, he turned to the boys. He was angry about what he thought was a poor effort given by Everette and Tobias – both still in elementary school – in their games that morning.

“If you can't go out there and push yourselves on the soccer field, you don't deserve McDonald's today,” he said. “If you're going to lay back like that, you can spend your Saturdays at home cutting the grass and working in the yard.”

Instead, Odell took the boys to a field next to their grandmother's house.

“Y'all ain't tired,” he said. “So get out there and run!”

Since that punishing afternoon, going all-out was never again an issue with Everette Brown. In fact, his full-force effort on every play as a defensive end at Florida State was a trait much-admired by the Carolina Panthers, who made him their top choice in April's NFL draft (in the second round, the 43rd player chosen overall).

And if hearing his named called by his home-state team two weeks ago culminated one big day in Brown's life, it had no more influence on him than that Saturday years ago.

“Oh, man, I remember it like it was yesterday,” Brown said. “My brother and I were walking around the soccer field like we didn't want to be there. It showed. My dad didn't let it go unknown that he wasn't happy.

“That's carried over for me. Every time I step on the field, I give it everything.

“No matter what.”

I was really exicited when we picked him, I just hope he brings that same never stop attitude to practice as well as games so he can become an effective run stopper along with his pass rushing abilities. I don't know if he will be a 4 down lineman until that happens

“In the long run it helped me,” said Brown. “What I'm known for now is my pursuit: coming up from behind, stripping the ball and making the tackle. When the ball goes away from me, I don't feel like I'm out of the play.”

Or out of a game.

When Beddingfield was in the process of losing a big lead against West Craven during Brown's senior season, a Bruins assistant coach worried they would lose.

Brown got in his face.

“Come on coach!” Johnson remembered Brown shouting. “Get your lip up! We're not losing this game!”

“He wasn't disrespectful about it,” Johnson said. “And we won.”

this i exactly who we are needing...going to be the beason of the front line.

i was just thinking...he is going to be our ace in the hole against romo. romo gets flustered easily. someone gets to him and he becomes an easy target and accident prone for a while. if peppers is still here i could see him always in a state of panic seeing brown coing at him so quickly and knowing that peppers is behind him somewhere. brown isn't going to let up and is going to be in his face all day.

i have a feeling that is going to be happening on a lot of sundays.

I just thought of something that may have been mentioned already but I havent seen it. If he has such a high motor, and he is always going for the QB, I wonder if he will push peppers to be even better and not take plays off. If this plays out like that our FO deserves a big hand for being ingenious. Imagine peppers with motivation...

Julius Peppers with motivation would be the greatest thing to come to Charlotte in a while.....If Pep stays and plays to his potential, at least like last year, and Ev. Brown and Charles Johnson continue to get to the QB, throw in Brayton on run stopping, and Taylor as a situational rusher...then we could have the best DE's in recent memory, esp if Brown is what we all expect him to be.......I also have a feeling that Charles Johnson will step up huge this year, which should motivate #90 even more.....

it depends on how incentive driven the contract is for pep. if it a simple "play another year for us and if you aren't happy you can go" there may be the temptation to be lazy. if it is go to the probowl and lead the team in sacks...i would think that would push him a bit. probably just the fact that some rookie could be showing him up might push him. who knows. it would make sense that brown giving that big effort and seeing a lot of results would make pep's job easier but also force him to produce at a higher level.

    • He’s been every bit as much of the problem as anyone else. You cant remove him from that fact, he is just as much part of the team and in THE most important position on the field. But this is the first season he’s seen any kind of continuity in his team and coaches. And he’s shown flashes here and there. But we do need more out of him going forward a lot more if we are going to be successful
    • Bryce isn’t great and super mid. But I think can be a game manager. What do we think is out there? Daniel Jones isn’t going anywher. Mac Jones? Zach Wilson? Pickett. I’m just not sure what’s out there that is much better without having to give up a ton of capital. Rather take one more step closer to contention with our early rounders next year with FS and LB help. Make this  place where dang they got a defense and a WR1 and solid RB room. I can win with that and want to be here
    • AR15 is if Justin Fields was fragile and his teammates hated him. No thanks. Ya'll think you hate watching Bryce Young? Wait until your QB can't even complete a 7 yard pass over the middle, which Fields and Richardson can't do. If the draft class was better, I could absolutely see the Titans moving on from Ward already if they got the #1 pick. But so far the college QB's haven't impressed enough. They'll have flashes, but then follow it up with a very meh game. Kyler is already done in Arizona, but he has a ridiculous contract and he's basically Bryce that likes to scramble, so no thanks. If Lawrence can't produce with that team in Jacksonville, what do you think he'll do here? He's tall Bryce who can throw deep but can't make the 4th down throws and crumbles in the red zone. No thanks. I do think Canales wants to move on from Bryce, his body language says so even in wins. He treated Bryce pretty odd this week and Bryce looked checked out in the Packers game. But unless they make another risky trade, its going to be slim pickings. Basically our hopes lie in hitting early in the draft with a Mateer, Nussmeier, Beck type or finding a random backup free agent that has another gear to hit.  I think even with the draft being wishy washy, 4-5 QB's will be taken in the top 7. A lot of teams are just that desperate.
