Media Over Looking the Real Issue with Cam

So what your saying is that Chud wants an offense that consistently morphs.

I mean by that, that the play we are running literally isn't decided upon until the the pre and post snap reads have been made and decided, and he wants this on a wide spread scale rather than the basics that most offenses use.

If that is indeed what your saying, then interesting. That's gonna take some time to install though... It'll require every player on the field to have the ability to be in sync with each other and understand what's happening on each play-as the play is happening.

That's gonna take time. Maybe I'm being impatient, but I think id rather us ease into that while running what we can run now, and slowly incorperating it in. Im really tired of "developmental years."

the bolded is what i think is actually happening.

and yes...it will take some time but not as long as people think but longer than people obviously hope.

but...we are still a very young team whose window is a long way from closing and that is actually just on the brink of opening. we have much of the keys that are needed, including the primary one which is a legit franchise QB. things will work out soon enough. it will be a pain waiting for it but it will be well worth it when it happens, i'm sure.

I played a little a-back at Navy so I'm all about read option, or triple option - as we called it.

But, it's a gimmick offense. The service academies run it because they don't have the size at offensive line to control the game. Paul Johnson runs it at Georgia Tech because he's a former Navy OC, and he knows it like the back of his hand.

My opinion is the personnel on this o-line were not put together to run the read option. Requires faster linemen to reach block and cut pursuit. We have some big slow mofos on this line.

And no way I would want to expose my QB to the type of punishment he could take running the option. It's all fun and games til DEs just decide to smash Cam every time, regardless if he hands off or pitches the ball.

This is a great post right here. Thanks

I can't with some of you folks.

Here is the reality since some of you folks seem hell-bent on ignoring the reality of your team.

If I had to play behind an O-line like what Cam has been playing being for a year now, I'd wear a dam towel over my head and sulk also.

You're now claiming that Cam's towel wearing is a distract...How about if you stop focusing so much attention on everything Cam does. then maybe his towel wearingwith be such a "distraction."

How about next time you jump into a thread with an ongoing productive and healthy discussion, you actually fuging contribute to it? You know, instead of just spouting your retarded Newton white-knight rhetoric for no fuging reason. Holy poo you're obnoxious.

I tend to agree that Chud is not doing the most with his personal, but also I think that is the case with the entire coaching staff. Also add on to the fact that they have zero depth... (thanks Marty.. )

I tend to look at the offense the skins are running now with RGIII, and that was essentially a more complicated version of what we were doing last year, with the right mix of zone reads and passes. But they also get RGIII on the corners, which I have yet to see us do, roll him out more.

Wow, this is one of the best threads I've ever read on here. Great insight and genuine discussion (mostly).

I'm hoping that if Chud is putting this much into creating our offense around Cam then he planning on being around for a long while. I can hope anyway.

I also have noticed that Cam never seems to check down. When Anderson got in at the end of the game last week he checked down twice right away. That's when I noticed that Cam never does that. I love the Panthers but I hate watching a team that run nothing but the option. It's like watching a game of paper, rock, scissors.

I think the bottom line is that Chud and Cam need to be working together. It seems too much like Chud is trying to be puppetmaster at something you simply cannot be a puppetmaster at. Its about adaptability and adjustments and our coaches don't do this well and its apparent they aren't guiding Cam to understand these things pre-snap and as the game goes on. Its a continued lack of communication

And its really not even an issue...

I said week 1, when it became apparent Chud is trying to make the read option a threat on nearly every other play call, that Cam has got to do a better job presnap at the line of scrimmage. He showed glimpses of this very early week 1, and ever since he seems to be that much slower on the reads. He is just holding the ball way to long. If he can get the read presnap he gains the advantage. Until he is able to point out the rusher(s)(he should have had a nice lesson in this last night watching Brady in a losing effort) this offense, by design we yield a significant number of negative plays.

This is a far more complicated offense for Cam to run than what he was running last year, which surprises me that people find it "dumbed down" from the Coryell looks we saw last year. Chud looks to have cooked up a whole new offense, and these initial looks are promising if Cam can make the read(and be willing to give the ball up).

The distraction right now is Cam's sideline demeanor and leadership abilities. Two things I am by and far less concerned with than his ability to make a read and execute the right option. When he starts to show that he can make right reads and make the right adjustments, he will gain a command of this offense that has been tailored to his skill sets beautifully.

My biggest concern with this particular offense is it seems to eliminate the cut back run. An aspect in the running game in which D. Will has been prolific. He has had some very nice carries this season out of the option look, but his ability to cut back has been pretty much negated by the new look. Cam keeping the ball is essentially the cut back.

Problem is, from what I've observed, Cam hasn't been given the "keys" to the offense yet. How many games have you watched where a QB yelled the "kill! kill! kill!" audible due to something he sees in the defense? I don't know that I remember Cam ever calling an audible. And from watching how teams wait to send extra guys until right when we snap it, I don't think Cam is given the option to get out of the plays. Chud calls the play he wants and they expect Cam to run it.

It's not an indictment on Cam, but on our coaches. Just as they refused to make changes in the Giants came and just got us embarrassed, I think they approach each play this way. For Cam to be in his second year and no have the authority to audible out or make adjustments at the line is ridiculous. Of course, this is speculation, but off the top of my head, I don't recall him ever making adjustments/audibles based on pre-snap alignments and reads.

And to your point about him being slower through his progressions after the snap... I suspect it's because he is stuck with the play that is called and he's starting not to trust they'll work after what we've endured through week 1 and 3. He's taken harder hits than he ever did in all of last year and has had little to no time to make his reads on a consistent basis... Which affects his ability to comfortably do so even when he doesn't get pressure - which has usually been once the team is up on us and drop 8 into coverage, which is a no-win situation either way.

It's the coaching, not Cam.

Kalil and Silatolu are perfect for this. They are athletic and semi fast. The rest...yeah no..
