The key to beating the Redskins - Greg Olsen

I've been waiting for Greg Olsen to have a breakout game this season...and I hope I don't have to wait any longer than this Sunday. The Redskins defense overall is pretty bad but they are especially bad against the TE. They've allowed about a TD a game to the TE over the course of the season, including two to Heath Miller of the Steelers last week (a nice fantasy day).

What happened to featuring the TE in this offense? Get back to your roots Chud, feed the ball to Greg Olsen.

We fed the ball to Olsen in the Atlanta game and still lost.

The problems with the team are not coaching, play calling, offense, the quarterback, the defense, not the special teams etc.. At least they are not any one of those things alone.

The problems right now are mostly mental. When its crunch time, we make mistakes in several phases of the game. It was that way in several games last year, and its becoming more and more prevalent. If Ron Rivera can't figure out a way to turn it around, then perhaps he should be fired. Not because he has done that bad of a job, but because we need some mental adjustments.

The offense also put up 28 points that day, the second highest total all season...but Atlanta's defense is nothing to get excited about.

True, but the problem is we are losing each game by a few points due to mistakes on offense, or defense, or special teams, or coaching, or some combination thereof. The only thing thats going to fix it is to quick making so many mistakes during crunch time.

Olsen's not been targeted as much lately as he was the first few games of the season.

I was going to start a thread about this. Not just against the Redskins, but in general.

More running, more TE passes (short/intermediate passes) Just to keep things moving. I mean, it wasn't as prominent last weekend, but most this season the passes are long developing down field passes all the time. We need more move'n the chains" style passes. And I think that's where our TE's can help out more.

Here's hope'n.

Olsen needs to get the ball more. I think the only positive thing that could come out of losing steve smith is that the offense would involve Olsen and the other TEs more

We are not gonna lose Steve, obviously you haven't seen the recent threads.

    • Yeah this needs to happen ASAP. I don’t care if the price is lower. These Vikings fans on Twitter are absolutely insufferable. Acting like they have been world beaters for the last 60 years and thinking Carolina should just hand him over for nothing. We’ve had 7 or so tough seasons in a row and we have still been to two superbowls since they have and won more playoff games since 1995.    I hope Dan sends him to Detroit for a 2040 7th rounder and eats half the contract. Even Sheena is replying to them.
    • I hope your cath went well
    • So did the Panthers initiate this by making him "available for the right price" or was this something Thielen himself pushed for? I also never saw this quote he made about JJ McCarthy back in June. https://sports.yahoo.com/article/panthers-adam-thielen-both-asked-182711572.html Thielen believes McCarthy is built for big moments and will eventually show the world the skillset that won the Michigan Wolverines a national championship in 2023/2024. He even said McCarthy could be the “face of the league.” “I have high expectations for him. I've been able to be around a little bit through some of the time last summer... back in Minnesota, and I think he has the ability to be one of the great quarterbacks this season and the face of this league at some point. You know, I think he's got every tool and intangible that you can have,” Thielen said. “Obviously, it's a difficult league and it's not gonna just be easy, but I think he has the ability to handle adversity to be able to be big in big moments, as you saw when he was in college. I think he's got a great support staff around him, whether it be the coaches or the trainers.” Sounds like he's had one foot out the door for some time now.
