Very good SI article on him. Supposidly Bill Bellicheck picked his brain before flying over to london and dropping 45 points on the Rams (who have a pretty good defense) and has high respect for Kelly.

Kelly is the most organized has-his-poo-together coach people have seen in a long time. He's certainly a reverse from Rivera, that's for sure.

Who else in intrigued by this guy?

As long as the man has the personality and people skills to relate to grown men and not just the domineering way of handling kids, I don't see there being much of a problem for college coaches transitioning to the NFL. It seems like it'd be less of a leap than from NFL coordinator (where all you handle is gameplanning and playcalling) to HC. Coordinators have to learn to lead, how to manage a whole team, how to manage game time split second decisions, all these things are things college coaches have already learned. That's the reason I'd much rather get a retread NFL HC or a college HC than a coordinator.

His success has been based almost totally on a tweaked version of the read option offense that will never work at the NFL level. Never. How will he adjust? Who knows?

He seems almost completely indifferent to what occurs on the defensive side of the ball, so he will have to be coupled with a top defensive guy. Even as we speak, his always suspect defense is getting gashed by USC...This is Chip Kelly's BEST defense at Oregon. They are 35th in the FBS....and this after playing a weak schedule.

Strike two.

The guy has no NFL experience. Zero. NADA. NONE. ZILTCHERINO.

Not as a Head Coach, assistant, player or even ball boy.

Basically you are crossing your fingers and hoping Chip Kelly is Jimmy Johnson. I believe Jimmy Johnson is the only college head coach to move to the NFL and win a Superbowl with no NFL experience. And Johnson went to Dallas after appearing in two national championship games (winning one), in 5 years at Miami. All while running a sophisticated Pro-style offense.

JR will not bring in a college coach and he won't bring in a big name, he will bring in a highly successful coridinator who deserves a chance, deserves a promotion, which RIvera did. Unfortunatley it seems he did not work out. I still see JR doing the same thing, promoting a successful defensive corinator. At least that is what he says he prefers doing.

yes, but it's risky.

I do think the spread would be fine in the NFL, many teams use a lot from it. But, too much option is gimmicky.

Being an established head coach in college means paying up big to get him, and you have to hope he can bring his DC. You won't get his OC, he's the heir apparent at Oregon; and you definitely want to put as many pro assistants under him as you can.

But, absolutely he's interesting. He's lost somewhere around 4 games in the last 3 years. That type thing gets infectious.

I'd take Saban before Kelly.

I don't believe in gimmick offenses and his recruiting prowess means nothing in the NFL.

I don't want any college coaches other than those using it as a short term stepping stone, like Harbaugh did. Actually, if I was forced to choose a college coach the Stanford guy is the one I'd pick.

I get what you're saying... But the man is running out of time, which leads me to believe that he's desperate and will do whatever is necessary to win in the very immediate future. I say he does go after a big name, and a proven one at that. I do however see a BIG changeover in HC's across the League during the offseason which will make it more difficult.

Here's the teams I think will be looking for a HC after the season:

KC

Philly

Carolina

Cleveland (New GM)

Possibly Jacksonville

And maybe others... It will make it a little more difficult to get who we want because of the attrition across the League imo

Speaking of which.... Do coaches' salaries go against the cap? Probably a dumb question, but I don't think that they do.

      Bryce has been playing the best ball of his career the last three games IMO. He wasn't the reason we dropped the game in NOLA. Seattle's defense will be his toughest challenge yet this season

      I'll be at the game Sunday and up until last year I had a perfect attendance record. Now however I have seen us lose to the Chiefs (last year) and the Bills (this year). So we can no longer rely solely on my ability to pound overpriced beers to propel us to a win.

      I haven't been able to watch Seattle on a dedicated basis but the Seahawks are a much better team by the all accounts: eye test, record and DVOA. Defensively they are sick. Best DVOA in the league first in rushing and second in passing. Offensively their passing game has been on fire this year led by JSN I can easily see this being like the Buffalo game where things just get out of hand for us early, that being said this league really is week to week and Seattle does have the disadvantage of traveling cross country for an early game.  If and big if, the Panthers are able to effectively run the ball and limit the amount of time Seattle's offense has to generate explosive plays we have a path to winning this game.  Seattle fans won't be happy to hear this but bad Darnold is always lurking in the background. He is truly an enigma to root for bc he will have an incredible throw that only a few people can make but then will turn around and throw the most bone headed pick of all time.  I think ultimately we drop this one as ultimately it's human nature to be looking forward to that week 18 game. But man how special would it be to be leaving the stadium on Sunday with a win and a miracle dolphins upset
