who we land as a GM will probably be a fair indicator of who we're likely to look at. until the options are narrowed accordingly it's a whole lot of conjecture and little more.

i'm intrigued by kelly's potential but i'm also pretty sure there's guys better qualified than him currently working in the NFL. more than likely we go after one of them.

If I were to go the college route I would take a long look at Chris Petersen at Boise State.

He maximizes his talent.

He usually has a really good defense

And he runs what is at least somewhat like a pro offense, and it is very effective.

He has also has had success across many different QBs and QB styles.

He has some family issues that would make him hard to get out of Boise, but if I had to go the college route, this is the guy I would take a long hard look at.

note: Saban would be a good hire too but he is already getting paid top dollar at Alabama and as much as I like him as a coach I wouldn't want to spend the money it would take to get him.

I agree. I think I would take Nick Saban or David Shaw over Chip Kelly right now. A lot of people keeps talking about how good Kelly is though. I know his offense is kind of a gimmick type, but I don't think he will bring that to the NFL level. Most articles I have read says Kelly runs great practices and not to forget the Belichick endorsement. With that said, I still would love to have Saban or Shaw over Kelly. Kelly scares the poo out of me a little.

Anyway, I would definitely not be against us looking at Kelly but just think that the big cat may want to look at someone who has proven he can be a hc at an NFL level.

You can't clump all of the college football world and say coaches won't do well but it is a bigger risk. If it came down to a current NFL coordinator/assistant v. a college HC that would be tricky because we've learned getting a coordinator can be just as big of a risk.

We've tried the DC three times in Rivera, Fox and Capers, the former HC route in Seifert, so maybe we will go for the college hc if Rivera doesn't stay and Chip Kelly would ideally be at the top of the list.
