Luke Joeckel, Left tackle, Texas A&M.

Joeckel has demonstrated the combination of size and athleticism in starting the past two seasons at the all-important left tackle position that he could ultimately beat out linemate Jake Matthews when he elects to make himself eligible to the NFL.

Joeckel (pronounced JOKE-ell) was a highly regarded prep prospect who signed with the Aggies over the likes of Alabama, LSU, Oklahoma and many others.

He won the starting left tackle position as a true freshman and has started all 26 games since, earning a spot on the Big 12's All-Freshman team in 2010 and First Team honors by the Associated Press this past season (coaches voted him to the second team).

Joeckel eases back off the snap, showing the light feet, lateral agility and flexibility to handle speed and/or power as a pass blocker. He plays on the balls of his feet with his knees bent, hips down and arms extended in textbook form.

Joeckel isn't a mauler in the running game, relying more on his technique and athleticism to seal off defenders rather than simply drive them off the ball but he's a reliable performer in this regard, as well.

Joeckel isn't a finished product, but he demonstrates such a combination of size and fluidity already that it isn't tough to imagine a similar ascent up draft boards as we've seen in recent years from

the likes of Matt Kalil (Southern Cal) and even All-Pro Joe Thomas (Wisconsin), the No. 4 and No. 3 picks of the 2012 and 2007 NFL drafts, respectively.

We're going to be drafting in the top 5 this year, maybe the top 3. Luke Joeckel is the #1 prospect in the country and should hold that title until April.

I love Hankins and Star but I really like our veteran D-line, and there are no corners or receivers that warrant a top 5 pick.

Gross is done. Bell and Silatolu have potential. And thank God we still have Kalil. We need to to protect our Cam, that should be the #1 priority.

This isn't Madden people. Let's just pick up Matt Kalil, Jarius Byrd, Calvin Johnson, Rob Gronkowski, Muhammed Wilkerson, Richard Sherman, Aldon Smith, Jason Pierre-Paul, Sebastian Janikowski, Patrick Peterson, J.J. Watt. Trade DWill and Beason for 2 1st round pick and then draft a LB and a RB in the first. God.

I, for one, would have no problem with that.

    • Yea, its a awful year for COY there's like 5 coaches Id as a  non-panther fan say are more worthy than Dave. Ben Johnson is doing similar to Dave by taking a yearly loser into a winner, but da bears are what 9-10 wins right now. Liam Coen has the fuging jags at 9-4 with similar talent as Panthers, I mean they drafted before them this pass year and had nearly zero from a guy they traded up for @#2 hunter.  ugh....Sean Payton&vance has the broncos as the current #1 seed in the AFC..... you know the broncos before the year starts you have the chiefs with mahomes&reid and chargers with herbo&harbs. No one had broncos winning there nor as a the #1 overall seed.  Mike Macdonald has the Seahawks at 10-3 compare that to Panthers 7-6, they are in a blood bath against Rams and 49ers.....shanny has half the team on IR with a 9-4 record.  Chargers are 9-4 with no OL or RB and not much on D.  I have even put colts above Dave and the Panthers, if not for Danny injury...they were on the way and playing great. Just soooooooooooo many HC deserving this year and still more games, but Dave has over played this year for sure. I had them at a firm 2 win team, with 4 being the maybe and 7?!?!?!? being the everything goes right. 7 wins is possible given the shitty NFC south.
    • He did everything right but catch the ball. Kept his hands out in front, palms away from his body, watched it in, and then dropped the dam ball! Text book up until he dropped it.
    • Just try to enjoy it for what it is. I don't need to convince myself that Young is good. He isn't. If this team makes the playoffs with the cinder block of Young dragging them down all season, even better.  But, some crucial things still need to happen, and being close, and moral victories, and at-least-they-tried isn't good enough.
