Fwiw, I don't understand why the milk that is actually on the shelf, that the grocery stores have already paid for, would go up. I can see milk prices shooting up as they have to replace what is on the shelf, but if they go up on Jan 1st, then its just price gouging I think.

Btw, milk going up won't just impact those that sell milk. Milk is a base ingredient in many foods. Of course, for some things, we could start using powdered milk. I am not sure if that is going up.

I'll just start buying almond or soy milk. Both taste pretty good and you can get them for around $4.50 a gallon when they are on sale...and since they last for months you can stock up when they go on sale.

Soy milk is nasty tasting. I don't drink much milk of any kind anyway, but I would do without before I would drink that stuff.

Most doctors still say that milk is good for you as long as its used in moderation (as with most things).

I agree. Milk is really a luxury item, not something you have to have. If they raise the price of pizza to $80.00 bucks a pie are you going to buy it? I certainly hope not. Please raise the price and then let it all sour on the shelf while people choose a healthier alternative. Then the dairy industry and the stupid government breaks all the farm and agricultural companies get can proceed to go fug themselves. If you can't sell all of something with a shelf life, you shouldn't produce so much.

That's what I don't understand. The Federal Government buys up a [ercentage of milk production to artificially inflate the price of milk so the farmer can afford to produce it.

If the subsidies end, then the price of milk should go down and not up, shouldn't it??

The Feds also pay farmers not to plant crops to keep prices inflated as well.

We use organic milk and pay about $7-8/gallon depending on where we get it. It tastes better & lasts longer in the fridge. I'm not one for drinking milk though, I use it in recipes and in cereal but that's about it.

Is your organic milk pastuerized? I know some people like raw unpasteurized milk, but personally I wouldn't drink it unless I knew how it had been handled.

Well my biggest fear is what the fug is going to happen to my ice cream?!!! Blue Bell Cookies and Dough and is already $7 a gallon...holy fug me.
