Panthers Saints Game Thread

Competent clock management would have given new Orleans about 15 seconds. Instead they got almost a minute. Oh and they get the ball first to start the 2nd.

This ones over and hopefully so is Rivera in Carolina.

Yup, 10-0 will look like a very long time ago when the Saints are up 24-13

lolll. Delhomme got so many excuses for everything he did. Even had a good number of supporters during the 09 season still wanting him to be our QB.

After the 09 season he deserved shot, he led the team to the playoffs, he didn't deserve that new contract though. He was consistently criticized for being a bad quarterback.

I like Cam just as much or more than the next guy, but come on quit being homers.

As Martz explained....Playcall doesn't give the QB that option like a traditional screen. It is a turn and throw play call thanks to the fake to the opposite side.

issue is Chud runs it every game lately.....easy on a defender to routinely use quirky plays. They can then blow them up

Regardless, you have to see what you are throwing too or else you are just asking for a disaster.

Exactly. Just a bad decision and throw. It happens to all QB's and is not that big if a deal.

I am more concerned with his continued issues with accuracy. He is throwing high on passes and than skipping them to wide open receivers.

Needs to spend the offseason working with Weinke again. Still a work in process as a passer and should spend lots of time on the practice field...and I believe he will.

I am more concerned with your uncanny ability to place blame at the feet of Cam Newton when things aren't going so well...including creating threads and making posts...

Yet when we win...You never fail not to mention one Cam Newton.

Agreed that was a bad decision to throw the ball. Unfortunately, similar to timing route passes, that play forces you to trust your target. Why not just run a normal screen, or just run the ball.

lol. I don't deney that. However, he has forgotten more about Pro football than 99% ( or better ) than us on thie board.

Valid point.

Cam just has to not spin and throw. We use it too often and the Saints sat on it. Bad decision. But, he had had very few of those in the past 5-6 games.

Not a biggie...just learn from it.

    • Absolutely. He just turned 27 a few days ago, so quite young. He and Moehrig would be quite the pairing.  I know we say this every year, but this FA period has A LOT of talent that will be switching uniforms. We were aggressive last year and have no doubt this time next week will have some studs on defense.
    • DJ Moore has always been a bit of an enigma. He came here young, flashed a ton of potential, but never truly grew into a real #1. He’s had a few good reasons, but yet to have a real monster season (outside of his first year with Chicago) We’re still waiting for him to blossom, but he will be 29 next season. I fear that it is too late for him at this point.
    • I have considered free agency.  LT?  Either not good enough or too expensive.  Besides, this is a good OT draft.  (I would rather have a free agent, mind you, but the Panthers' reality suggests we can't do it without neglecting other positions).  What LTs are available in free agency, and what do you expect to pay?  Any Ickey-level OT is going to cost over $20m.   How much do we already have invested in our OL?  I get your point, but I do not think you can spend over $100m per on your OL. We have 2 guards and a right T who pull in about $75m per season.  We don't have a center yet.  Teams just don't let good LTs hit free agency, and when one does on rare occasion, he is expensive.  If you want a third of the Panther cap going to 5 Offensive Linemen, free agency is the way to go.  We still need S, ILB, Edge, WR, etc. I think we'd need more than Nijman--and I would understand if we went free agent for a T--but that is putting a TON of your cap at OL--so considering our situation, I do not see that option as preferable.  You may disagree. If I was not talking LT on our line and thinking about the cap, I would agree 100%.
