Lombardi reports Rivera in limbo. ( GM will decide fate)

Richardson will decide his fate.

If he wants Rivera gone....he will hire a GM that wants to bring in a new coach. If he wants Rivera to stay for another year, he will hire a GM that thinks Rivera deserves one more year. Richardson won't hire a GM whose plan for the next year isn't already laid out to a degree.

Lombardi just reported on NFL network that Ron Rivera fate will be left up to the GM. Also the search is on the way.

Things will get interesting in the next couple of days. I think the Panthers will move fast and Ross or Gettleman will probably be the most likely candidates to end up with the job.

Shouldn't we have ALREADY moved on Ross or Gettleman? The announcement on who our new GM is should have been made last nite at 12:01 AM.

Couldn't officially even ask permission to interview till the season ended.

Jerry Richardson is out of town today. Hmmmmm...

Officially, no. However, why do you hire a guy with all the ties Ernie Accorsi has in the NFL unless you're planning on sending out some feelers?

You can't negotiate with free agents prior to free agency, yet every single year the top guys sign complicated multiple year contracts shortly after midnight. I'm sure those deals got knocked out in 15 or 20 minutes, right?

Julius Peppers to Chicago in less than 30 minutes comes to mind.....

Oh I agree we had a head start.

But of course, tampering never happens (officially)

Richardson will be the one to decide like it has always been. Fox would probably still be here if it had ever been up to Hurney.

actually...it was ultimately fox's decision to not be on board with richardson's ultimatum to he and hurney to purge the team and go young if they didn't produce back to back winning seasons after 2008 that got him fired.

fox would still be here if he had decided to play along.

can't really blame him for sticking to his guns. he's following the same path in denver that he did when he first came to carolina...and it's paying off big time.
