GM selection, coaching staff/adjustments.

With the right people above:

1. Cap space problems are alleviated

2. Coaching issues (schemes, chemistry, etc) are resolved

3. Solid backups for depth are added during FA

4. Select good draft picks in April

I know a bunch you emotional types are crying that RR wasn't fired, but this is a smart business decision by JR. No need to wreck the team with a huge turn over by firing RR and his staff when the same intent can be achieved with a few smaller tweaks in other areas. The key here is finding the right GM.

With that said, let's get the discussion going on the four topics above.

1. Cap space means some vets need to go. DWill made himself marketable during the last game. It's worth a start to see what value he has.

2. New Oline, Special Teams, and strength and conditioning coaches

3. Safety is still an issue for us. Fix it.

4. I would address Oline or DT first in the draft, depending on what's available.

Now I don't understand why Hurney got fired. Hurney isn't the one coaching the team or playing on the field.

accidental pie, meant to quote you

ANYWAY

Hurney is the one who gave deangelo willimas a retarded amount of money, a number he was not going to get anywhere else. Then he also botched julius peppers leaving, giving jake a huge contract, and tying up so much dead cap in the next few years it would be a miracle if we made it out the next two or three years with a .500 record.

Hurney isn't the one coaching the team who couldn't get the offense going. He's not the one not making defensive adjustments.

When you're a good HC in this league, you can play and win with what you have. You adjust to it and change your game plan if you have to like how a Shannahan did with Kirk Cousins.

Hurney's recent moves was made bc of the fans favorite. This forum would've went nuts if Hurney just let Dwill and Stewart walk. Hindsight 20/20 sure no one could've went wrong if we let one of them walk.

Smart business decision? That's all Jerry and his supporters seem to care about, smh. When are we gonna start caring about winning some damn games. Geez, it's this same talk year in and year out. "Give such and such another chance, he'll get it right next year." We hear this talk every year. 4 winning seasons out of 18 seasons. Jerry doesn't have a clue what he's doing, and it appears he's going in the same direction we've been since 95.

I don't think posters mind Rivera staying. It's who decided that he was is, has, and will be the problem until JR is not meddling in team affairs

well, it's that and that i haven't heard if there were any ultimatums given. i don't know what the expectations are and what will happen if he doesn't reach those expectations.

i want to know just how committed this team is to winning...not just platitudes. i want to know that if rivera doesn't get this team in the playoffs that he's gone. i want to know that if he doesn't produce back to back winning seasons that he's gone. i want to know that if we are eliminated from the playoffs early that he's gone. anything like that.

it's not enough to say that they want to win. what are they doing other than backing their coach to ensure it?

Is it going to be a smart business decision when Beane is the GM? Maybe in terms of what the GM makes, but not the repercussions on the outside.

My real focus now is finding another team that will be competitive and stop wasting my time trying to figure out why the Panthers organization is so unbelievably dicked up.

As long as Chud is here, expect another mediocre season.

Where's the faith? Where's the trust? Where's the confidence? Or the hope? Why is it so hard to believe that JR actually is trying to get this thing right? Or that our new GM may actually like Rivera? That our staff is actually improving is not that farfetched.

I just do not understand how some folks can live through the last 10 years and not see the improvement Rivera has brought. He started with a Fox and Hurney team. Some just feel he has improved enough to warrant another year to finish the rebuild. Which is what this was when we hired him. A rebuilding team.

Some, like me, are optimistic. Some aren't. I love this interwebz thingy.

    • After some of the calls last year probably won't see much of a drop off
    • https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/48344034/nfl-begin-hiring-replacement-officials-given-state-negotiations-nfl-referees-association   Honestly fug these refs and their union. Resisting changes that would actually incentivize good performance and not seniority based systems. What a bunch of donkeys. Hope the replacements straight up take their jobs and never give them back. Sick of watching refs script games with no repercussions.
    • Donovan seems like highest risk to me. Lloyd and May have already established relationships with all these kids. There’s probably guys hitting the portal that they recruited from HS. And then there’s the possibility of transferring their own guys from their current teams. They’ve also been recruiting the HS kids for like the next 5 years already. Look at the Iowa coach who hit the ground running by transferring all his guys from his D2 program. Or going across sports to Cignetti transferring all his JMU guys year one then building off that to a national title year 2. Donovan is starting from square one having been in the NBA so long and he’s already 60. So you’re potentially punting year 1 for a guy you are just hoping to be a 10 year hire while you figure out how to actually develop your next home grown 20yr guy. That’s 1/10th of the time you have him, more or less at best. The hope would be that he would find some high level assistants who have been working the college recruiting trails already, but then are you giving up his ideal staff just to get a foothold in recruiting and transfers. Think Belichick year one was bad? Imagine how much worse it would be without Steve Belichicks transfer portal pulls. Hoping Mays or Lloyd are all they’re cracked up to be.
