Haven seen much in two seasons. Three backs that haven't been able to do much.

As laughable as it sounds now, people were calling our o-line a strength heading into 2012. We had three 700+ yard rushers in 2011. I think the stupid ass play calling early on made our line look like pure sh*t. The plays were taking too long to develop with Chud's over use of the read option. Then in the second half we had backups to backups starting in the middle. They performed as expected, good enough to temporarily fill in but not start. That's a credit to Matsko IMO.

Positional coaches are responsible for scheme implementation in relation to their specific position. Just like how Norman lining 10 yards off falls on his position coach and on himself, so does anything the RB's do (or don't do) fall on their position coach. While their problems may very well have been scheme related, the coaching staff may have felt that they weren't being coached how to run the scheme properly by their position coach.

Maybe.

My conspiracy theory is that Settle could be getting dropped to make room for an old Rivera colleague with more experience, maybe someone like Tim Spencer.

It would make sense if Rivera is looking to bring in an old friend. But it's still a questionable move, in my opinion. We finished 9th in rushing yards, 3rd in rushing TDs, 9th in yards per game, and 9th in yards per attempt. All of this came during a season where we had a depleted OL, questionable play calling that hurt the RBs, and injuries at the RB position.

I know a good chunk of those stats came from Cam, but I just don't think this firing makes very much sense.

There is some practical logic to it as well though.

Settle has a total of five years experience coaching at the pro level, and that includes the last two with us.

Among Rivera's former colleagues, there are guys who have been coaching pro runningbacks since 1991 (Ollie Wilson) and 1997 (Ted Williams). Oddly enough, Tim Spencer has the least experience of that crowd, having only coached since 2004, but his first three were on the same staff as Rivera.

Don't have much to say about this fire; everything that's needed to be said has been said. All I know is we really need to get someone on this staff who has some previous coaching experience to help Rivera out with clock/time management, etc. that's what I want to see.

    • The era that you played in, and, more importantly, who you played with actually matters. Honestly, that's why these issues will be debated forever, as it's just difficult to say that this person or that person is better when you're discussing the passage of time. As for me, after Rice, Moss and maybe Megatron and T.O., there's probably a dozen or so guys that can be argued about to the cows come home. Personally, I'm not putting Fitz, Harrison, Johnson, Evans, or especially D-Hop, Jefferson, Chase or Hill definitely in front of Smitty (and Colston ain't even in the discussion). Context and all that stuff actually matters. Things like the triple crown matter.
    • Some of those guys? Yeah honestly you can.  I would 100% take Steve Smith over Larry Fitzgerald, Harrison, even Mike Evans. He is 100% a better player than those guys in his prime. If you look at the numbers Smith is historically under targeted in comparison to his contemporaries. He was only targeted 150 times or more only once in his career. Fitzgerald for example was targeted well above that 9 different seasons. Had Smith played with Peyton, Brady, Greatest Show on Turf, or even with Warner in Arizona he would broken records. His 2008 season was ridiculous accumulating 1400 yards in 13 games on less than 80 receptions. All time he also lost a season due to injury in 04, barely played WR as a rookie. Got robbed of 1k season with Clausen. Thats easily another 1800yds minimum that should have been tacked on to his #s. The only guys I’d say for certain are better than Smith are Rice, Moss, TO, Megatron, Julio Jones, Antonio Brown.
    • I parked in this lot a few times. It would take over and hour to get out of that lot after games. Never again
