WR coach Fred Graves and LB coach Warren Belin are fired

WR coach I can see, but LB coach? I would have to assume that Rivera already has other specific people in mind.

Same here. I don't get why Belin got fired unless some bigger name with more experience would take over at that position

So in addition to questioning Rivera's coaching acumen, I suppose we might want to question how good a job he did selecting staff members.

What do we have so far? Let's see...special teams coordinator, original DB's coach, RB's coach, LB's coach, and WR's coach. That's a bunch of misses.

I bet you anything that Rivera's talk with Richardson went as follows:

JR: "So....I like you, Ron. The players love you and you have given us improvement since we brought you in, despite a terrible start this season."

RR: "Thank you, sir. I apologize for the slow start, but as I have said....it's a process."

JR: "So it is...." *grabs golf club and walks into open spot in office* "you know...I used to be able to drive a golf ball 280 yards with a 3 wood..."

RR: "That's impressive, sir..."

JR: "I haven't had a swing that good in a while. Always was more of a baseball man myself...now that...that is something I can do. The bigger the ball, the easier it is to hit.....so, this is what is going to happen, Ron."

RR: "Sir, with all du--"

JR: "You are going to go back to your office. You are going to sit down with your coordinators, who are not going to be fired, and you are going to fire at least 3 assistant coaches. I want some turn around around here and I want you to deliver the news, because I want you to look at your future. We will bring in new guys at those spots....and if next season you decide your...what did you say..."process"?

RR: "Yes, sir.."

JR: "If your process doesn't pan out...you'll be out the door as well. But not before I work on my swing....are we clear on that?"

RR: "...yes, sir. I will not fail you again."

JR: "I know you won't, Ron. I know you won't."

    • We have seen Bryce get outplayed by all manner of QBs, from UDFAs to second round picks.  If we actually scouted any QBs it would not be a difficult task to upgrade from Bryce, you guys act like he is even decent. He is one of the worst starters league wide stop making excuses.
    • if  ANYONE actually goes & looks at the FACTS on rookie Qb's after 2 full seasons as a starter in the NFL & they are still well below average do they rarely ever actually become top tier Qb's & instead most likely either do not recieve a second contract & or become life long backups...just saying
    • So he became GM and decided not to address the weakness in the QB room following one of the worst rookie QB performances in NFL history?  There were options last season other than signing Dalton to a 2 year deal. Brissett and Jones by a wide margin, both of whom outplayed Bryce, Wilson, Winston, hell even Rivers off the couch was more exciting at the QB position. The time to address the failure in the QB room was last year but instead people on the Huddle cheered when we brought Dalton back then cheered when we were able to get anything for him after they finally realized he was washed up like a few of had been saying all along and got poo'd for even mentioning.  This year, the options were more limited obviously, especially since we lost Icky. It changed the dynamic of our draft. I think we were stuck this year keeping Bryce, but i still think giving him a 5th year option for what has amounted to replacement worthy performance was the wrong move. Why guarantee 25m if you're planning to replace him? You think he's going to want to be a bridge QB? Hell no. He's going to want out and we'll end up cutting him if he has another lackluster season because no one is trading for him with that price tag.  Were there better options as far as production available. A couple. Were there guys available with more physical tools than Bryce, Pickett or Grier, you damn well better believe there were. I've been saying all along, you always keep looking for your 1b. Bryce has yet to prove he can be a starter. Keep looking for someone who may. Put competition in camp. Let the best QB lead the team. Stop settling for less than mediocre.
