Rivera talked to (wanted?) Norv

Rivera talked to Turner: Rivera said Tuesday he reached out to Norv Turner about becoming his offensive coordinator, but the wheels were already in motion that would take Turner to Cleveland as part of Rob Chudzinski’s Browns’ staff.

Rivera and Chudzinski worked for Turner in San Diego before coming to Charlotte two years ago. When Chudzinski left for his first head-coaching job in Cleveland two weeks ago, Rivera called Turner, who had been fired after six seasons in San Diego.

But Chudzinski and the Browns were one step ahead.

“He and I did talk. We talked about the opening. One thing he told me was he had a lot to think about,” Rivera after a Senior Bowl practice. “I had heard that (Browns CEO) Joe Banner called him directly during that whole process. That’s the hard part because you don’t know when or what went on in that conversation.”

Turner ended up going to Cleveland and was joined by his son, Scott, who left his job as the Panthers’ offensive quality control assistant to become the Browns’ receivers coach.

“Obviously, they had a jump on us and probably had already laid the groundwork, as far as I knew,” Rivera said.

The way I read it, this sounds like it was planned before Chud's initial interview, but maybe I'm wrong.

It sounds like we were caught pretty off-guard by the Chud hiring. With it happening so fast, it seems like Chud had already set up a direct line to Norv before he was even hired. Which is pretty lame... We should have just fired him immediately and started talking to Norv before anything else could happen.

I wouldn't say it was lame, it's business and proprietary to have your ducks lined up before you plunge.

    • Let's pause a sec and rewind. The hype for Bryce Young before we drafted him was beyond anything I've seen in a long time. If you're trying to tell me now after all the hoopla about his ability to make those around him better and the comparisons to hall of fame players across different sports leagues that him taking the next step this year fully hinges on Adam Thielen then we're probably already doomed. Thielen is not going to keep any defenses up at night. He has good hands and very low YAC. We have 4 young WR's ahead of him with potential that need crucial development and we certainly need to find out what we have in them sooner rather than later because regardless of what transpires this season the QB room should undoubtedly be getting a hard reset. Those reps need to go to the young WR's regardless. Bryce needs to step up and take ownership of the relationship between himself and his young receivers. That's why we drafted him.
    • #Raiders WR wide receiver Jakobi Meyers has requested a trade, per a league source. NFL Network first to report   https://x.com/josinaanderson/status/1960060238213546417?s=46
