Higgins "Bobcats Will Sign Max-Level Free Agent"

Recommended Posts

Rod Higgins recently sent out an email to Bobcat season ticket holders promising change.

The email entails how much cap space the Cats will have and what they plan to do with it.

Higgins states that the Bobcats will have roughly $20 million dollars in cap room and that they will indeed sign a max level free agent.

Make way for the new and improved Bobcats next year. I fully except Al Jefferson to be a Bobcat next season.

Change is upon us, Go Cats.

Whoa, I wonder who they can get to come to Charlotte. I'd expect that it would be a big like Jefferson, that has some offense and serious scoring potential to his game. That way Bizmack being on the floor doesn't look so bad offensively. Just a question of who would come to Charlotte to play for the Bobcats.

He's been saying that since Cho was hired. But he had been saying all along that it would come after the 2012-2013 season so sounds like that is still in the plans. I'm telling you, Cho is going to build a winning team. Really bad seasons this season and last season were all part of the plan all along. We'll be a darn good looking team next year with possibly 2 top 14 picks and signing a max level guy. (more than likely a big)

Imagine:

PG-Kemba

SG-Shabazz/McClemore

SF-MKG

PF-Al Jefferson(we'll pretend that's the guy)

C-Big Smack (who I think will be greatly improved)

Plus I think we'll sign other good free agents and get another good draft pick with Portlands assuming we don't trade it away. Our bench could be deep.

Not trying to rain on your parade but who do you think is going to come here? Howard? Paul? Get real.

I'm sure they will sign a player to a max contract. But they will foolishly over pay for a mid level guy. It's what bad teams do.

I disagree. Cho is VERY smart and knows what to pay for certain players and when it gets to be too much. I doubt we get a Howard or someone of that level but a lot of guys would love to come here and be the leader of the team and get an opportunity to shine as the go-to-guy. Plus our owner is MJ and that is a very powerful tool to have when trying to get someone. And if we change our name to the Hornets that could create some excitement among players and show them we are serious about changing our culture. Also we have a good young nucleus that will only get better.

I really hop we don't draft a 2 guard this year, unless it is with the Portland pick. There are some good bigs that will be in the top half of this draft and realistically Bismack is at least 2 years away from being other than a complete liability.

With Zeller, Len, and Noel sitting at the top of the draft we have to get one of those guys IMO

None of the bigs have star potential. We DESPERATELY have to find legit scorers on this team. All of the bigs are average at best. We already have Noel in Bismack. It would be easier to get a big with Portlands pick. We need a dynamic scorer to put between Kemba and MKG. That is a much more important need. We'll get our big through free agency.

It isn't going to matter who we get if we have to play 3 on 5 on offense like we are now because people are trapping every ball screen and whoever is guarding the other post player is helping on the roll.

We have Kemba, Ben Gordon who will still be under contract, Hendo, and Sessions. All 4 of those guys are good enough scorers at the guard positions.

And if you think Kemba is good now, just wait until defenders actually have to defend the roll instead of trapping every time.

Meanwhile in the post we have a guy that literally cannot even catch the ball or make layups right now.

If you need an scoring guard, right now it would appear that CJ McCollum would be available at #14 and he is my favorite #2 guard in this draft.

McCollum is my boy and would be great. I see him as a Jason Terry type, though. Great scorer coming off the bench.

    • I see Bryce's development this way: He improved when his supporting cast improved.  TMac and Dowdle saved his arse last year, but in fairness, most good QBs have good WRs and good RBs--and good OLs.   The 2025 OL underperformed, actually. They were above average, but they should have been elite if you consider the salary cap.   As soon as we signed Lewis and Hunt, I started thinking, "That's not sustainable.  With Ickey about to get paid a LT salary, Moton and Hunt grabbling $50m per season combined, and Lewis around $17m--that would be nearly $100m and the Center just walked.  Yikes.  What does that mean?  Rico walks, Mays walks, and we do not have a top 5 WR on a second contract.  We do not have an elite TE, and only 1 is on a modest second contract. And now Bryce will demand $50m for his incremental rise to mediocrity?   So when we sign Bryce, we will get weaker at other positions.  Hunt, Moton, maybe Ickey and Lewis, will all be casualties--that is the right move regardless (not sure yet about Ickey, but he was not elite) Bryce is one lucky, entitled camper.  No competition since being drafted, and he lost his job for a while to the aging clipboard holder.  Now we are bringing in UDFAs and busts to compete with him.
    • Probably not.  If we are taking a QB, it would be a prospect to replace Bryce and not a flyer type player.  I can't say for sure, but I doubt he would have cracked the top 3-4 QBs even if he were to play this coming season.
    • The Giants, Cardinals  and Dolphins should have moved on, but they didn't and ended up cutting their QB early into a monster second contract and had to eat a TON of dead cap money.
