For the married folks: How do you all manage bank accounts?

both. we kept the credit unions we both had (different ones) so we each have money deposited into different accounts, but credit cards run through the same place.

she pays the bills, i'm paying off the house. we're pretty focused so there really isn't much leeway as far as one of us spending more on random poo, so it works pretty well.

It's easier to have separate accounts in my opinion. She can do what she wants with her money. I give my wife money every time I get my commission check. It all works out. Each couple has to decide what's best for them.

My husband makes way more than I do...I pay for my car, the water bill, half the mortgage and my credit cards..he pays the rest. Like I said in my other post..we keep it separate but once a month he transfers me a lump amount of money and I pay the bills out of my account. I have my money, he has his....I will say, he usually always pays when we go out..lunches, dinner..bar tabs...all that...I pay for most of the groceries...you'll figure it out..it's not that difficult..do you split bills now?? If you do, why do you feel the need to join accounts because you said "I do"?

Don't ask...weird deal, but it works for us.

My plan as of right now is to pay for everything, and have her added to my account, and put every dime that she makes into savings, stocks, and emergency funds.

I don't spend every dollar I make....and she is closer to zeroing out every month, but has gotten better with time, and pay raises.

Just a little confusing right now.

Honestly, I would hate doing that only b/c it makes me feel like I would have to ask for money ....like I'm on an allowance and I would hate that...I like having my own money. My husband has no problems whatsoever giving me money..but I HATE asking for it..

That may work...my job is so up and down, and I really want to put away a years worth of living expenses though.

She really does hate asking me for cash...drives me insane. Instead of asking for $$$ she will use her damn credit card. We may end of having to do that half deal that you talked about.

everything is joint and I typically pay all the bills...alot of them are automated too though

if we actually had a budget or some accountability, we'd be way better off, but we typically spend what we make month to month with built in emergency cushion and safe savings/investments etc.

In our situation its got nothing to do with trust why we don't have joint accounts. We were together for 4 years before we got married..what worked for us with bills, worked for us..so we didn't change it. We've now been together for almost 13 years and keeping it separate still works. I do better with money when it's on a debit card..he prefers cash. I know exactly what's being spent b/c I'm the only one swiping on the account. We honestly never really argue or fight..but when we do money is never one of those things.

Same for us. Our 16th anniversary is coming up feb 28th, and trust is not even an issue. Ease and convenience are. Well, that and I would be annoyed if I had to call her and ask if I had enough money to put gas in my truck. :) I trust her implicitly, and she sees all the statements, and knows that we haven't been late on a bill payment in many years.

We have separate checking accounts. She pays house payment, I pay everything else. The savings account is in my wife's name, which is where we put any spare money for rainy day/new house build in a cuople years.

I also have a side job that she doesn't really know how much I make. This lets me suprise her with random gifts from time to time, and helps me feed my fishing equipment addiction (not to mention the high dollar escorts).

Joint savings, checking, and MM. Although, we pretty much just closed our MM and savings accounts because of pathetic interest rates and such.

She does the bills. I got the skills.

We also have a savings account for my son.
