Is no one else willing to restructure?

If they aren't working on restructuring Beason and Gross (maybe Deangelo too but I just think it's time to move on there) then I will have lost ALL faith in Gettlemen.

I'd love to keep both of them, but not at their current numbers, which begs the question as to why something wasn't finalized (restructure or releasing them) before the start of FA so that we could have at least gone after a few above average players

I feel like this has been several times, or maybe I'm misunderstanding, but- cap doesn't matter again until some later date closer to training camp time or possibly later, correct? So restructuring now, or later doesn't make a difference... And FA isn't over, we can still go after "a few above average players"

Who says Beason is interested in restructuring? And we've approached Gross already about trying to re-work (in nicer terms; in reality, trying to get him to accept a paycut) his contract.

Beason, Gross, Williams. All need to restructure. Gross is willing, The rest should follow suit.

If Gross was willing then he already would have.. They tried to get him to take a pay cut and he didn't do it.

The Panthers have asked LT Jordan Gross to restructure his contract.

The report indicates Carolina wants Gross to take a pay cut, as opposed to converting salary into a bonus. Gross' 2013 cap number is $11.7 million, and the Panthers are currently $4 million under the cap. "The Panthers and I are trying to work out the best solution to help this team move forward," Gross said Saturday. Mar 9 - 9:24 PM

Then you cut him

I'm love Beason as much as anyone else, but coming off the injuries, he just isn't worth the risk going into the season for what he's getting paid, not when we're in our current cap situation.

Look at how the best teams operate every year, if you're not worth the money you're being paid, you get shown the door. Can't get sentimental about every player if you want to win a championship

The reality is that Beason is no longer the MLB or leader of his defense and is coming off an injury which came off another serious injury. Yet he's being paid and we're taking the cap hit as if he still is those things without the injury risk.

Reconstruct by converting salary to bonus:

The Panthers are not interested as all 3 are candidates for being cut next year and new bonuses increases the dead money if that happens.

Reconstruct with a pay cut:

Why would anyone of them be interested in that? They all know they might be cut anyway next year and all are aging so the next injury could be the final one. Of course they want to make as much money as possible. Plus we are not in "one FA from SB" mode so it does not make sense to take a cut to help the team (actually we will most likely improve for a couple of years as Cam gets more experience and we can sign new guys as the Hurney contracts expires).

I don't agree. If it was a simple restructure to push money into the future cap it's be quick and easy. The fact it's taking so long tells me he's at least negotiating a pay cut, but he's not gonna just take their first offer (because that'd be stupid).

    • I think Indiana will win it all but Miami should give them a much better fight than Oregon did.
    • When I tell people I was at that game, they usually say oh that’s so cool you had the experience. I call it soul crushing. Why? The weeks and months leading up to it were great, the team was fun to watch every week…some weeks the offense was unstoppable and carried the team (saints and giants road games), other times the defense carried the load (jaguars, tampa). Lots of back and forth games against good teams (Seattle and Indy). Good young players on the team, but the veteran leadership was incredible…from Cam, Olsen, Kalil and J Stew to Luke, TD, Norman, Tillman, Jared Allen, CJ. Role players like Fozzy Whitaker, Cotchery (he caught that MFer), Philly brown, Kyle love, AJ Klein, and so on.  The Friday before the nfc championship my wife and I after a few drinks said let’s see what prices look like for flights/accommodations and we got to talking about how much prices would increase if we waited until we found out if we would be in the big game. We said screw it, we are only out $200 if we have to cancel.  Of course we come out and just pulverized the cardinals in front of the most raucous crowd by far we’ve ever had. We had no idea what we would do for game tickets and then found out a neighbor who worked for the team could get us 2 for face value (each employee got two of their own for free, something cool that JR did).  But then the NFL mafia decided that the storyline of manning going out on top like Elway would give them more goodwill than a non traditional QB who didn’t connect with their target demo and the rest is history. I never have and never will watch that game again. I am just hoping I can see them win one in the 2nd half of my life.
