Tavon Austin projected to be top 15 pick.

Ja Rhule

Austin is DeSean Jackson/Percy Harvin kind of a guy. Same size and skill set. He's 5'9 and 178lbs... Almost identical to DeSean Jackson. DeSean Jackson missed 9 games over 5 years. So Jackson didn't really "got killed" because he's small.

Austin's "cuttability" is phenomenal. He'll be dangerous in space. My only question is can he get up and catch those lasers from Cam?

His "cuttability" is like a dance. It's amazing.

And yeah, getting up is important.

I see Dante Hall more than DeSean Jackson, but the basic skill set being referenced is the same.

He knows how to use his blockers better than any college kid ought to. And his elusiveness? Jaw dropping.

When I imagine what he could become with Steve Smith as a mentor...

It's beyond fugging hilarious that you want Austin when you were completely against bringing in Harvin when they are the EXACT same player.

Like could be the dumbest/funniest poo I've ever read on here next to when Mrtouchdown said that Eric Fisher didn't deserve to be in the first round and that I was retarded for thinking so.

Panthers need a better SCORING OFFENSE....not yards but SCORING.....you dont win games by gaining 573 yards and only putting up 22.3 points. they only scored 216 offensive points the whole year. they are 18th in points per game.....a below avg scoring offense. they only avg 1.6 tds in the redzone per game which is 16th. they are 24th in touchdown passes per game also.

panthers are poor in the redzone. they move the ball decently, but they cant finish the job in the red zone. Thats where a big te would help out a whole bunch. that's what really helped the pats...not welker.

patriots scored 354 offensive points.......welker only had 6 tds this year. belly really didnt try hard to keep him either...........telling.

the most tds by gronk are 17 while the most tds by welker are 9......tight ends have more of an impact than slots.

like i said start naming all these STAR SLOT WR THAT ARE MAKING SUCH A HUGE IMPACT on these good offenses........you can get a decent slot later that people will have to plan for as well.....

as long as they are quick, run routes well and are sure handed....last time i checked welker runs a 4.6...lol (hes quick, he doesnt have deep speed)

also austin compares to percy not jackson. austin's highest avg is 13 while jackson's was 18 in college......not the same player.

lol bottom line is panthers have no big target for newton, that can also be a speedy deep threat. oh yeah its plenty people with potential, but thats just a word for "i have not done anything yet".

last time i checked the superbowl winners had TWO deep threats and USED THEM TO WIN TOO. if not for that long play by jones ravens would have lost denver. also check out this display of the deep threat at the superbowl baby.........................................

ball was underthrown but he still got in.....

I understand the argument for 'size', but there isn't a single WR in this draft that has Tavon's playmaking abilities. Cordarrelle is the closest but he's not the most dependable receiver. Keep this in mind (for those who are referencing Smitty as the slot receiver), Smith will likely be retiring after this season. It's not illogical for Getts to draft a speedy WR to replace him.

Exactly my point.

http://voices.yahoo.com/are-taller-wide-receivers-better-nfl-6349.html?cat=14

It's an older article, but still... In 2004, the average height of an NFL receiver was 6-1 and the most productive group of receiver's was the 6-0 group.

The average height of an NFL receiver is 6'1" but the most productive height group in virtually every category are the receivers that stand 6'0". For all of the talk about taller receivers these numbers just go to show that the 'proto-typical' wide receiver is really the most productive. I guess that's why they are 'proto-typical' huh? Will wonders never cease?

In 2012 the top 5 WR in yardage were all taller then 6-3 and 15 of the top 20 were 6-1 or taller. Only 3 of those players were shorter then 6-0 tall (Steve Smith, Wes Welker and Lance Moore). Link

In 2011, 6 of the top 10 were 6-3 or taller, with only 6 players in the top 20 being under 6-1. Only 3 players in the top 20 were under 6-0 tall. (Steve Smith, Wes Welker, Antonio Brown) Link

He's obviously ready to be done. It's smart too. A fully functional body would be nice.

He's my favorite player ever. Grew up idolizing him. I've watched every interview. You can tell he's ready to hang 'em up.

There will never be as Smitty 2.0. But there has to be a replacement.

Think about the impact Smith would make if he left. The offense would be half of what it is now

lol replace smith with tavon....tavon is a SLOT........smith is a deep threat in his prime..and still is a decent one now, just not as effective because he has slowed down some.

if you can sell me that tavon could be similar to jackson or smith i wouldnt mind him......still wouldnt pick him at 14 because d.jack was a early 2nd round pick and smith was a 3rd rounder. .....

    • So Willis had a good game against a poor defense and all of a sudden he is worth 50 million and is guaranteed to be better than Young. LOL I know he looked good in the 3 games he started, and I think he will have success long term, but anyone signing him up for a long term contract for 50 million is taking a huge risk.
    • Is he really though? Rivera was past his prime and probably shouldn't have even started 2019 so his firing wasn't really unexpected or unwarranted. Rhule lasted two and a half years which was about one year too long in my opinion. Bringing him back that third year certainly wasn't impulsive and I would say Tepper was more patient than he should have been. Wilks finished out that third season and did pretty good but most everyone could see he really wasn't anything more than an intern HC. Bringing him back was not the long term answer so not bringing him back was the correct call. Hiring Reich was a mistake from the beginning and he recognized that fairly quickly. I am sure he knew he was going to catch a lot of sh*t for firing him so quickly ( and boy did he ) but it was absolutely the right thing to do given everything that was going on. The firing may have looked impulsive, but I think it was him recognizing he had royally f*ck up and just dealt with it instead of letting it fester.  That brings us to Canales. 2025 was only his second season and yet he delivered 8 wins and the NFC South title. And while that might not sound great, given the lack of talent and cap space they started with, it's a strong step in the right direction. I couldn't imagine Tepper not being pleased with their progress given the crap the Panthers' have been though under his ownership.
