NY philosophy

I have mentioned this a few times already on other posts in the past hat Gettleman may take a NY approach to business. Since his 15 years with the NYG, they have only taken "three" offensive lineman in the early rounds. Both Snee and Beatty were 2nd rounders and only Petitgout was a 1st rounder. Other than that, it's been guys off FA for them.

Got a feeling we're going to sign a couple of veteran O-lineman soon. Maybe, by the end of this weekend we'll add a guy or two. There have been news that guys like Williams and Omayile are visiting, and we're in talk with Kevin Boothe. If Gettleman stays true to his NY philosophy, we'll be adding 1-2 of those guys soon.

Don't look for any sexy signings in FA or taking an OL in the first two rounds. I should have been smarter to not think that we were going to sign Antoine Cason. OL will probably be the only position we'll add in FA. Maybe a DT.

Jeff Hatch was a 3rd-rounder in 2002, but interesting point nevertheless. OL picks are conspicuously lacking.

By contrast they've drafted 8 defensive lineman with their first and second rounders alone in the same time period. This is partly what has me convinced we'll sign a vet OG (as Chuck said) and that we'll pay Hardy what he deserves when the time comes. Heavily investing in the defensive line wins you superbowl rings.

It's in our signatures, Chuck. He said it from the get go. Big men allow you to compete.

My point is, Gman is taking the approach he was taught how to build a championship team. Some people like me are here waiting for Gman to sign a CB, FS, DT, etc while we're forgetting his philosophy. That is, adding veteran OLs through FA.

I'm more relieved now knowing we're taking the same approach as the Gmen. I'm relieved not kicking my @ss every day bc we're not adding a sexy position.

Giants have had a pretty solid o-line for a while. Ours is one of our top 2 weaknesses. He'll fix that.

We're not terrible. It has always been a struggle for our OLINE to play well early in the season. I can't ever remember a season where our OLINE didn't played poorly to start the season.

But, like i said i can wake up in the morning knowing our main goal in FA is to add veteran O-linemen. That's how NY Blue have done it since when, and it has worked for them.

To me, this is a good point. I think we will see big improvement at LG, and LT and C are going to be good.

What I want to see is the right side of the line moving people in the run game. With Silatolu's ability to block in space (Pulling), we could really open the run game up with a bull dozer at RG and a good run-blocking RT. We are missing that right now.

I am not sure all of the candidates are here to interview for the RG position. I think RG and RT are going to be upgraded. Bell is good depth, but we need a stud RT.

Yea, to follow on to my previous post, if we were to sign Boothe I wouldn't feel concerned about having a rookie RT if they decided to upgrade from Bell. If Fluker somehow fell to the 2nd or there's another mauler RT available in the 2nd he'd have to be strongly considered if we have a strong vet at RG. I just wouldn't want to have a RT learning the ropes with a scrub like Hangman or some other comparable FA or a rookie beside him.

I would like to see this: Sign a RT to compete, go ahead and pay a little bit for a RG---Boothe would be worth a $12 million contract over 4 years, IMO. That would pretty much use up the rest of our cap space, so more moves need to be made.

Cut GWilliams, Hangartner and free up another $3 million. Sign a DT.

We have to enter the draft thinking, "We are getting 2 starters out of the draft." Draft DT (I think we need 2) and a CB or WR. In rounds 4-6, however, add depth at the OL. Get a raw, developmental LT project to groom for next season--since Gross did not cut his pay, this is his last season (someone like Quessenberry or Faulk). Get a G. Add a RB.

Every year, in the late rounds, draft a lineman.

    • Yea, I don't really care what PPF ratings you're trying to talk about, if you think Bryce was the 6th best QB over the final 8 weeks of the season last year, then you're out of your freaking mind.   You're probably the guy who goes to a strip club and thinks the stripper is in love with you. The 6th best QB in the league doesn't throw for more than 251 yards only twice in that 8 week span and not even real 300 yards once, just nonsense to think otherwise, drops or WR play aside, it's just crazy talk.
    • This would be a next year move if Bryce cements himself as a franchise QB. Go all in on some veteran rentals before Bryce's extension kicks in
    • If they lost a close 7 game series to the Panthers no one would be saying this but they are getting absolutely DOG DICKED on their home ice. They are getting swept again and I don't know how long they can keep doing the same thing and expecting a different result. Brindamour isn't going to bring them a championship when every year they fall apart when the games matter most.
