Atlanta go to Clemson to stop read-option

There is a price you pay with every dual threat QB and if we don't start protecting him from a subpar OL and designed run plays then Newton won't last us 10 years. Having Cam as our lead rusher is a goddamn no-no.

Cam has the potential to throw for 4000+ as well as run for 1, 000+ in one season the nfl hasn't had a dominant hybrid qb (one that can throw and pass) I believe cam will be that qb sure there will be a concern about him getting injured but he's just as likely to get hurt standing in the pocket if not more likely anyone remember orakpos spinal tap hit on newton in the pocket? I do how many times have we seen cam take a big hit in the open field? I don't seem to remember any except fletchers hit when he was diving for the end zone. Cam is such a great runner the way he can make people miss to get that first down you don't want to take that away from him

Is there a way to gauge how successful the read option truly was for us? Because all I remember is it being executed poorly. Everytime I saw it we were stopped. The giants game was a prime example.

When we sprinkled it into our offense, not when we used it as a base. But if i remember correctly Teeray disagrees, it could have been another poster. He broke down ridiculous amounts of tape. Even timing the moment the QB gets the ball to when the running back gets it. Just proving that we were running it wrong or something like that.

I still think we need to run our offense like the latter half of the season.

No let's force him out in the open and hope a LB doesn't injury him while he's running for a first down or a touchdown.

If Cam can't drop back and throw with that OL, then guess what? We won't win many games no matter what scheme we utilize.

Don't worry buddy, Cam can stay in the pocket throwing to LaFail all day while the 9ers, hawks, skins teach us how to do it then everyone can get fired, including gettle. You make it sound like we have receivers to throw the ball to. Breaking news: We don't have Julio Jones, Roddy White & Gonzalez on our roster. The coaching staff couldn't scrap the read-option even if they were brave enough.

I think the most dangerous play for Cam is using him in short yardage situation like a fullback. That poo needs to stop.

This is concerning, guys. Clemson held FSU's zone option attack to just 667 yards last year.

I can see a lot of DCs losing their jobs over this in the coming years because they all have the 1 year of tape they were begging for.

If you can pick up 40-50 yards or 3 or 4 crucial 1st downs with it then it was successful because the traditional QB is not giving you that at all, win or lose. Because teams lose games a lot more based on personnel than schemes. The Giants just put 22 better players on the field than us.

You certainly implied it. Cam is a dynamic runner but he's still a QB. So Newton shouldn't be a full-time RB. We can't be a successful offense with Cam doing that in every game. The Panthers need him dropping back and slinging the ball to receivers.

Yeah, and how's that working out for Vick? Size can only protect you for so long. It doesn't matter if he were 7'3 ft 280 lbs, hits in any contact sport take their toll and Newton takes more than the average QB.

Cam didn't bring the Read Option to Carolina. Chud, himself, stated in an interview that he brought the system to Carolina because he felt Newton would benefit from it in the NFL during the learning curve. He did. However, Cam and the offense need to evolve. Shanahan and RG3 are moving on, and so should Rivera and Cam. Incidentally, I think they might have done precisely that. Newton thrived in a more traditional offense during The Eagle, Charger, Falcon, Saint, etc games.

Cam doesn't need to be Brady, Peyton, or Rodgers but it's crucial for Newton to continue to develop as a passer, not a rusher.

I guess Chud will take the read-option to San Diego too(is that where he is now?). You don't get the point. Cam won a national Championship running the read-option against NFL type players in the SEC so it was natural to incorporate it in the offense. Stop giving credits to the wrong person. That poo is annoying.

Clemson is the perfect place for them to get defensive tips, just ask West Virginia.

Next year DCs will ask for 2 years of tapes on the read-option so they can keep their job. On extra year of paychecks.

Eventually(3-4 years) owners will say fug stopping, let's get our own.

On a side note, there is a High School QB who threw for 4500 yards and rushed for 1500 heading to Clemson. You can imagine the Clemson coaching staff saying to atlanta "we shove it down everyone's throat, that's how we stop it".

again, only you are referecing Cam being a RB...he isn't. He is a QB that runs....and him running is the most dangerous and unstoppable aspect of our rush attack. Steve Young ran at almost near 40....that didn't mean he didn't throw to WRs.

Cam did bring the read option to Carolina....b/c Chud himself said Cam asked for it to be incorprated.

If you want Cam to be a traditional QB....you are wanting him to be limited and not special. Also increases the odds he gets hurt. Newton was a #1 overall pick b/c he has the potential to be special....turning him into a traditional pocket passer year 3 makes him a bad investment. Not what he is....
