Carolina-Chuck'S MOCK DRAFT Before the Real DRAFT

Here we go, I know yall been waiting on me for this for a very long time. lol.

Well, we're officially a month (4weeks) away from the 2013 NFL Draft. I think I have come into decision on who and what positions I think Gettleman and the Panthers will be targeting in the Draft.

Let's go:

The 2013 NFL MOCK DRAFT

(1.14) Tavon Austin WR, 5'9 174lbs WVU

We all know that the Panthers have already met with Tavon. That's something to go by that we are interested in the little dude. Probably not much, but it's something. He probably is nothing more than just a "slot", but that's exactly what we're missing on this offense. Smitty and LaFail on the outside, and Tavon is a plug and play at the slot. I'm not so sure how much of an impact Ted Ginn is going to have on this offense. Tavon is dynamic, fast, and has great quickness and explosion "in" and "out" of his routes. He's one of the better route runner in this draft class. He is going to create mismatch wherever you line him up at. Defenses are going to have to game plan on him every single week. Gettleman knows that a "slot" (Victor Cruz) receiver can be more than just a "slot" and have major impact on an offense. This man is a game changer with the ball in his hands. Tavon is going to be Gettleman's guy. :)

and NO, Tavon is not Steve Slaton, Noel Devine, or even "Joe Adams"

(2.44) Jesse Williams NT, 6'4 323lbs Alabama

I wanna go Johnathan Hankins here, but I think someone in the first will take a chance on him. Williams will probably end up in the 2nd right into our lap. He's a big, massive NT that we dont have right now on our team that can actually play. No, Fua is not that. Jesse is probably the strongest DT in this draft class. He can hold his point of attack and uses his hands well to shed blocks. Pair him up with Dwan and Kuechly is going to have a field day every week.

(3) Pick to SF

(4.108) Shamarko Thomas SS, 5'9 213lbs Syracuse

This kid along with Matt Elam are built like fuggn' TANKS. No wonder Indianapolis have already met with him. They clearly misses their Bob Sanders. The Panthers have also met with Thomas which is intriguing. Thomas had an amazing combine showing off his speed. He may end up going a lot earlier, but you never know. The FA market for veteran safeties is still pretty packed. Some of these safeties in the draft will end up falling due the market. Teams are not going to reach for these guys. And, I'm not positive that the "Mike Mitchell" guy from Oakland will even make the final 53 man roster cut.

(5.148) William Gholston DE, 6'6 280lbs Michigan State

Gettleman will keep on adding them DEs. Can't ever have enough DEs. He will build this team like how the NYG did, creating pressure from your front four. Gholston possess tremendous size, but will slip all the way down to the 5th due to concerns. He had a rough childhood experience which he was later brought up by his high school coach. Some are concern about what he'll do with a lot of money. Silly huh? But, Gholston was also timed running a slow 40, clocked close to 5sec (4.8) at the combine. That could hurt his stock a bit. He have been simply falling off the board since the begginng of last season CFF. This will be another one of those Greg Hardy luck in the draft.

(6.182) Jeff Baca OG, 6'4 302lbs UCLA

I really believe that Gman will bring in another veteran RG to compete with Hangman going into the season. I'm not going to believe that we are going to go with another rookie for a consecutive season at an interior offensive line position. Baca will be a good prospect to groom and develop for the future. He has very good size to play the OG posistion and is extremely physical. Baca even have experiences playing all three positions on the line (tackle, guard, and center).

I like it Chuck! I have an opposite view of Hankins, Williams that I will be using in my mock, because I do believe that Hankins is going to be the one who drops out of Williams, Jenkins, and Hankins. Jesse is too big and athletic not to be taken by a team like Pittsburgh late first. Love going WR and would be good with Austin, because we need a playmaking WR there. Williams and Thomas are that deal.

Austin brings a lot to the table, especially if the team cuts Dwill like expected. If the team cuts Dwill, you can line him up in the backfield and get some RB touches for him, line him up in the slot or on the outside. Can also compete for the KR/PR spots as well, if he wins those jobs, He'd be getting a ton of touches and be worth the high selection.

I wouldn't be surprised if the team that Picks him doesn't get him about 50-60 carries, PR and/or KR responsibilities and get him the ball about 40 times out of the WR spot on screens, curls, slants and such.

Since the team signed Ginn, I think the only way he'd be worth the selection is if Ginn get's beat out by Austin and/or the team cuts Dwill.

- Don't want Austin at #14.

- Jessie is a great pick.

- Shamarko is a big hitter, good against the run and as a blitzer but doesn't really have coverage skills and is a bit small. Good value in the 4th though, if he's stiil there.

- I like Gholston but I'm not sure we go DE in this draft. Probably pick up a OT/OG/TE here

- Not a bad OG, if someone like Tretter or Thornton is there

Pretty good mock overall. Only problem with it is Tavon.

    • Not football related, but UNC basketball player Seth Trimble used his NIL money to buy the Ben & Jerry's franchise on Franklin Street in Chapel Hill. https://www.tarheelblog.com/unc-basketball/46475/seth-trimble-now-owns-ben-jerrys-in-chapel-hill Definitely a smarter move than buying a Lambo.
    • I was bored at work today so I typed up my ideas for CFB realignment: D1 college football would be split into 2 tiers of 5 conferences each: Power 5 (P5) and Group of 5 (G5) conferences. To bring the total number of FBS teams to an even 140, the following FCS teams would make the moved up into the G5 tier: North Dakota State, South Dakota State, Montana State and Sacramento State. The P5 tier would consist of 50 teams with 10 teams per conference. Every team would play every other team in it's conference every year. There would be no conference championship games in P5 tier since teams will play each other during the season to provide the head-to-head tie breaker. The G5 tier would consist of 90 teams in 5 conferences of 18 teams split into 2 divisions. Teams would play every team in their division every year along with teams from the other division on a rotating schedule. G5 conference championship games would be held the week following the Army-Navy game between the two division winners from each G5 conference. In the event that Army and Navy are the two division winners in the American conference, the Army-Navy game itself would decide the conference championship. P5 tier would retain the current 12-team playoff structure and seeding rules with the existing Bowl Game rotation remaining in place. G5 tier would use a 16-team playoff with conference champions guaranteed the top-5 seeds + homefield advantage in the 1st round. Seeds 6-16 would be decided by national rankings. Homefield advantage would be decided by seeding in the 2nd round with the G5 National Championship held at a neutral site. There would be a promotion/relegation system in place. Each P5 conference would have a satellite conference in the G5 as follows:  - ACC/American  - Big 10/MAC  - PAC/MWC  - SEC/Sun Belt  - SWC/C-USA Every 5 years the team in each P5 conference with the worst W-L record over the previous 5 seasons would be relegated to their conference's G5 satellite. Likewise, the team with the best W-L record during the previous 5 seasons will be moved up into the P5. Any other movement of teams between conferences would be subject to approval by the CFB Competition Committee and teams are only permitted to switch conferences once every 10 years. The Walter Camp Award will be awarded to the best player in P5 tier. The Maxwell Award will serve as the G5's equivalent award. The Heisman Trophy will be awarded to the best player in the nation, regardless of conference or tier. POWER 5 CONFERENCES: ACC: Clemson Duke Florida State Miami N.C.
