Media reaction to Star Lotulelei

Recommended Posts

I think he's gonna be a better Pass Rusher in the NFL than he was in Utah if only because of his supporting cast (Johnson, Hardy, Edwards.) He got 5 sacks last season despite being doubled or tripled a lot.

Whatever the case I fuging LOVE our Run D right now.

Winners

Panthers: Dave Gettleman didn't have to do anything to make a slam-dunk selection, but that doesn't stop it from making him a monster winner. A run on offensive linemen sent a potential super (errrm) star to the Panthers in the form of Star Lotulelei. I called Star a "dream scenario" for Carolina and never thought it would happen. But it did, and Gettleman's got to be giddy at getting a player of that caliber at No. 14.

USA Today

14 (14) Panthers: Star Lotulelei, DT, Utah

Analysis: The Carolina D-line is suddenly scary with pass rushing demons Charles Johnson and Greg Hardy flanking Lotulelei, who could also suck up blocks in front of defensive rookie of the year MLB Luke Kuechly. Matt Ryan, Drew Brees and Josh Freeman won't like this pick as the heat will be coming from every direction. Had Lotulelei's heart been pumping at full efficiency at the combine, he might've gone off the board much earlier.

National Football Post: With two good young defensive ends in Charles Johnson and Greg Hardy already on the team, the Panthers add Star Lotulelei to give them a dominant interior player. His combination of elite playing strength, explosiveness off the ball and speed chasing down ball carriers makes him the most versatile and dominant defensive tackle in the draft. This move could make the Panthers' defense one of the better units in the league.

No. 14 – Carolina Panthers select: Star Lotulelei, DT Utah (Grade: A-)

Big-time steal for the Panthers here at the 14th pick. It was only a month ago that Star Lotulelei was being talked about as the unanimous No. 1 pick in the draft. A monster in the middle, Lotulelei demands double-teams and has the motor to attack all game. Drafting a player like that in the middle of the 1st round is incredible value.
