Kenjon Barner - our Tavon Austin / Percy Harvin

Does anyone think we might use Kenjon in a way the Vikings used Percy, in the slot some, out of the backfield, just wherever they can get him on the field to help?

The stuff I have seen on the kid, he looks as good as Harvin did coming out of college. I know some people wanted Austin to help out Cam, but this kid is Taller and Thicker than Austin and if he can pick up some route running skills, could be a real steal for us.

Just my 2 cents...

The same was said about Pilhares. It doesn't mean anything if the coaches refuse to craft a role for you. I wouldn't expect anybody to go out of their way to make sure a 6th round pick gets a few designed plays. Barner was brought in for depth purposes and we drafted BPA down our board. I wouldn't consider him even on our radar in terms of actual game time until he comes in and proves he can handle snaps up here.

I respectfully disagree.

He's the second fastest guy on the team behind Ginn and has good hands. A good coach utilizes every tool he has. I don't think he's an every down back, but Rivera has been asking for a scat back for awhile now, now he has it.

Also, he may see much playing time in 2014 when we release/trade Dwill, I like to think he'll get his feet wet this season.

I actually see Barner as more of a scat back, Darren Sproles type. I know a ton of people were down on the pick but I think he could end up making a very big impact in year one. Giving Cam the option to throw to RB's in check downs will be critical, unfortunately Williams and Tolbert have average hands while Stewart has stone hands when it comes to catching out of the backfield. I see us using Barner as a check down, screen play back. The fact we drafted Barner gives us flexibility to either cut or trade Williams or Stewart.

He ran almost a 4.6 forty time. That's not the fastest. Gettis ran a 4.2 forty

    • Why are Vikings fans acting like we peed in their cereal?
    • I’m actually fine with our TE group. I would like to see us upgrade at ILB, maybe safety and CB.   I think we are good at WR. I thought Corley could have been a good player but I guess he wasn’t doing good at all.   I came across this article about Corley from today. I know sometimes a change of scenery can really help turn around a player and we’ve seen plenty of players from the jets end up being good other places. I just don’t know if Corley is that guy.   https://www.newsweek.com/sports/nfl/jets-insider-shares-embarrassing-fact-about-malachi-corleys-release-2119816
    • I was really rooting for him after seeing that video about his struggles. I always thought he was a solid and underrated player.   I thought for sure he would have made the team after hearing all the hype and how he made that overthrown catch by Plummer behind the line and still was able to gain a yard or two off it. Plummer really overthrew him each time yet he was able to still not lose yards. I think he still could play in the nfl. I think he may need a few months to get into top form though. Hopefully he will get signed to another team.
