ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the league and the NFLPA are on the verge of a deal that would move the draft to May, something the league has wanted.  The change would apply to at least the next three years.

 

 

 

 

The quid pro quo apparently will come from the movement of the start of the league year (and in turn the launch of free agency) from after the Scouting Combine to before it.  While at first blush this suggests the new league year will land in February, the more likely outcome is that the Scouting Combine will happen in March.

It's obviously a move for the players rather than the fans. This will give some of the older vets more time to latch on to a team before the combine and draft.

 

As a player, I would love this (unless I was rookie because it would prolong the time I get to get in the playbook), but as a fan... this sucks ass.

Easy enough. Take the first two pre-season games away and add two regular season games to the end of the schedule.

 

Too bad the real world doesn't work like that. I feel sorry for the season ticket holders that pay good money to watch those lousy pre-season games.

Our off-season has been longer than I would like since 2008 anyway. 

I don't care about WHEN the draft is, I care about how the draft goes. 

I don't care about how long it is between the end of our season and when the draft is, I just want it to be shorter than 30 other teams.
