Am I the only one that wants us to be a conservative ground and pound offense?

For me, it's about adjustment.  The ability to win games with a one sided offensive strategy and a "game plan" is becoming increasingly more rare.

The way I see things, you have to play every opponent differently.  Every week is a new week.  Every game a new game.

I think there will be times where it's necessary to rely on our insane backfield.  There will be times that we'll need to exploit weak secondaries and take the big plays given to us.

 

And there's a lot to be said for balance.

 

But if something isn't working by halftime, you have to make adjustments.  And that kind of flexibility and mid-game retooling is key.

I am in favor of an offense that controls the clock and scores lots of points. How they get there doesn't matter to me.

how many games were won with less  than 24 or less points? 

 

how many games were won with 28 or more points? with 30 or more?

 

how many games were won with less than 25 passing attempts? with 30 or more?

 

the ravens didn't exactly have a conservative game plan or performance in the playoffs. flacco was airing it out quite often and i feel confident in saying they wouldn't have even made it to the superbowl were it not for them throwing the ball a lot. they found their passing game and that was what took them to the top.

 

the 49ers had one what you would call conservative ground and pound game and that was against ATL where they threw much less than they ran and kaepernick only ran it himself a handful of times...well, that they won anyway. they had that same gameplan and lost to the team that passed the ball a lot & ran the ball a lot & scored a lot.

 

you want this team to win? don't play conservative ground and pound football. you light up that scoreboard early and often. you win by scoring more points than the other team can keep up with.

Because it was very inconsistent and actually became predictable.

Balanced, using a power game, play action, and layer in some read option....hell yes.

I think the o is fine but Rivera has a problem making halftime adjustments. We always seemed to get out coahed the second half.

Last year of John Fox, "If we do ground and pound anymore I am going to shoot myself. Seriously its a PASSING league. The Saints are winning because they are with the current time."

This past year in a completely new system, in which we have a vertical offense and the read option,"Holy poo, am I the only one around here that wants a traditional offense of pound it on the ground?"

I am hoping that people can realize that we can't win airing it out because our QB isn't an accurate passer like Brees, Rodgers, Brady, or Payton. Cam is also pretty much a terrible closer and plays his worst ball in the 4th so the run needs to be an established staple throughout games for us to turn the corner.

This is misleading. Others would call BS on this. 

 

Yes, Cam had his moments, like against Seattle and Chicago (though Steve Smith slipped--causing the interception). I get that. However, Cam has certainly done his part many other times to win games, and the defense (no matter how well they were playing at the time), couldn't hold the lead to get Cam the come from behind/4th Quarter/Game winning drive, victory That's happened way to often in Cam's first two years. 

 

For example: The sainted, Andrew Lucks's six game winning drives in 2012, all came after he scored a TD (even after INT's/bad play by Luck), where his defense was able to hold on to the lead when the opposition had more than enough time to tie or win the game. That what's Cam needed, that too many times his defense couldn't deliver.

 

Of course, Cam has made mistakes. He's a young QB, no matter how talented. Who hasn't? But he's also played great, or certainly well enough  (through out, the 2nd half, or end of games), and had/has nothing to show for it. 

 

RG3, Wilson and Kaepernick, didn't make as many mistakes as Cam, Tannehill or Luck, cause the first three were more tightly managed than the latter (three). How often do people seem to forget this?

 

I know some Panthers fans want to win at all cost, and are tired of losing. So Cam get's his fair share from some of them. I get it. But let's show some perspective (and liked we actually watched the games as well). The Panthers wouldn't be in most games (regardless of who they play), or have a shot to win at the end, if it wasn't for Newton. 

 

Actually, your Head Coach/coaching, instills a winning and closing mentality, more than you're Rookie or 2nd year QB does (regardless what you or ESPN, etc., wants to banter lately).

 

Let's hope Rivera grows/learns with Gettlemen behind, pushing him, along with Cam?

You don't have to be conservative just to run the football. With all the damn RB's we have they all aren't going to get touches strictly rushing alone anyways. I don't give a poo who runs as long as Cam isn't leading rusher again.

Agreed. And "balance" doesn't necessarily mean a predictable back and forth. 

 

You can throw the ball 5-9X in a row during a particular game, just to surprise the defense with a draw play, that goes for 60+ yds, matching the previous 5-9 passes in  yardage (and then do the opposite, next or during a particular stretch of the same game). 

 

Until the Panthers OC, has that type of balance and unpredictability, truly taking what the defense is giving them, then springing the appropriate surprise, some of us will always clamor for more. 

 

With expectations in 2012 (whether legitimate or not), you always got the feeling that Rivera was afraid to score points, stay aggressive, and/or take chances, even if it cost him/the team games.

I wouldn't want a foxball conservative offence again but I wouldn't mind a bruising attack that scored less but had the advantage of keeping the other QB off the field forcing them to pass which would allow our rush to get to them.
