AE, Panthers & High Marks in the same sentence (article)

I'm not saying anything about him as a player as at as skill goes. But people need to remember that he wasn't responsible for being drafted where he was. He didn't make the trade. All he's done is come in and work. He's improved tremendously and anyone not driven by hatred can see that.

He puts in the work, no one inside the organization has ever said anything negative about him publicly and as of right now he's fighting for a roster spot just like Gettis, Adams, Pilares and a host of others.

If he can convince the staff (including Ricky Proehl) that he's worth a roster spot then I won't complain.

I think he's earned his chance and I hope he makes the most of it. He needs it and we need another WR to step up.

I don't get the hate.

i'll never understand the hate either. It's okay to make fun of the situation, because of the circumstances. I get that. But people here crack on this guy way to much, when he's done nothing but kept his head down and worked hard. It's not translating on the field, because of things i have described before.

My hope is that he realizes this is it, and he goes back to his reckless abandon mentality that he showed at App.  This has nothing to do with him as a wide reciever, when he got the ball in his hands, he didn't make the most of his opportunities. It's really painful for App State fans to see him play like that i.e. get caught by a punter. The guy has skills when he plays fearless, but i have yet to see anything close to resembling that. And that is what it takes.

This is his last chance. I hope he makes the best of it because he is a hard worker and a great guy and i'm obviously biased.

As a few have already pointed out, he really has gotten few opportunities to show what he can do. It sounds like they are giving him those opportunities this year. It is extremely difficult to impress without getting the chances to do so.

Let's see. Gettis has/had plenty of speed, but is in the doghouse. Adams, let's say the odds are against him. Pilares, the team has stated they really like him. And then there is AE. Those are the main 4 guys fighting for those last 2 positions.

AE has 4.4 speed, and Ricky claimed he has learned the offense. But Pilares ain't slow. They kinda mirror each other in a lot of ways. IMO, because they can both return, they are ahead of Gettis who is less versatile.

I believe AE is still around because he has shown growth every year. But then again, not many players get 4 years to learn a position. There is a reason he is still here. I say why not? If he can be productive, he is worth the wait. Hellz, he can have a decent year and still not be here next year. So unless he has one of those "break out years", his time in Pantherland is nearing its end.

tl/dr version. When Shula talked about running plays for his playmakers. The first person I thought of was AE. Don't ask why? It was like one of those, 4th years the charms kind of things. lol

I think Armanti stands the best chance to do something this year because of Ricky Proehl.  Smitty credits him with teaching him the ropes when they played together for the Panthers.  Seems to me that Ricky is a great teacher and mentor and exactly what Edwards needs.  This could be the perfect storm where wisdom and experience join athleticism to help him get over the hump.  Seems to me that this year is surely do or die and the competition is fierce.  He will either rise up or fade away.  He has to know that this is it.  His contract is up after this season. This is his last year to prove he worth another contract. And at this point there is no guarantee there will even be a fall campaign.

I don't think anyone is rooting against the guy but we've seriously been hearing this poo since 2011 and then he promptly does next to nothing in the regular season.

I tend to agree with this. The hate this guy gets probably comes more from having a miniature local teebow following. They always bring his blown up limited stats and talk about how great the dude is and that can really get annoying. If he didn't have the local fame he wouldn't be getting this benefit of the doubt like he does now. Everyone roots for their team to discover that hidden gem, and if Armanti is one then you'll see all the hate disappear.

The biggest hurdle I would think, mentally, to over come as a QB turned WR would have to be adapting to becoming the aggressor and not the guy running for his life. That, to me, is where AE is weakest. I'd like to see what he's improved this year. If he looks like he's playing with a mean streak and bustin loose I'd like to see him start in the slot.

Sorry, not trying to be a dick but this is wrong. I'm one of the biggest Armanti supporters here. Armanti was the aggressor in college. I saw him do things in college that i thought at the very least his mentality would translate to the NFL. He plays scared.

When he was QB he would try and truck linebackers, he would dive over defensive lineman and linebackers for the TD. Like someone else said he was fearless. And he played to win. This has nothing to do with positions. It has everything to do with mindset.

I hope he has improved his mindset because he can make this team better if he plays the way he did in college. Obviously he hasn't proven that in the least bit here. And his time is dwindling down.

edwards was playing injured for several games after the beating he took against michigan and he basically got skullfuged by LSU the next season.  he was never afraid of contact in college and would drop his shoulder to grind out extra yards like a running back.

of course the NFL is on its own level and it does seem like he plays scared now.

    • A friend of mine, Dr. Brown, asked me to help him with something.  He's evidently made a couple modifications to an old sports car and wants me to test drive it for him.  He asked me an odd question that I wanted to get your thoughts on.  He said, "You know Carolina Panther history pretty well, right?"  Then he went into this long gobbledygook speech; something about light speed and gigawatts and butterfly effects. I dunno.  He lost me there.  That's when he asked the odd question.  He said, "If you could change any one instant in Carolina Panther history, ... just ONE, ... what would it be?"  He told me to think about it and I'm supposed to give him an answer tomorrow. Not sure why he wants to know that just so I can test drive his car.  Anyways, I came up with an answer but, before I tell you mine, I thought I'd ask what your answer would be.
    • Yeah or some other ridiculous poo like that slapping contest they put on.   I don’t know. I have been watching the NFL since the early 1960s and it won’t be easy but a man can only take so much foolishness.
    • Old timer here. Since 2003. Don't come by too often these days. It is hockey playoff season after all. Mostly just read when I do. Pie a lot. Panthers Twitter (never ever X) still quite active. Follow Panthers a lot on YouTube too. This place became toxic for awhile and the shine wore off. Despite Zod not paying attention, I'm glad it's still here. The Tepper/Rhule era was hell. Tried to make the Panthers a college team. Bleh! Thank you to everyone who continues to post. I don't always agree but do appreciate it.  My favorite moment? At a Carolina Huddle tailgate a long, long time ago I met Kurb. At one point in our conversation, he said, "all this time I thought you were a guy!" 😆
